Read onlyHi all,
i just went to add a product from seller central and underneath 'sell this product' there is a blue bar saying 'copy listing'
clicking on that takes you to a page to input details to make a new catalogue listing using the current details from the active listing.
if this is used i can see the catalogue getting even more messed up than it is already.
thoughts anyone?
cheers peter
Totally agree, Peter. It's enough mess as it is because of all the rogue dropshippers who ave created duplicate listings with ASINs without using the correct ISBN.
Interesting. Did you actually create a new ASIN?
I just went through the motions of 'copying' a listing for a book with an ISBN. The only possile barrier that I could see (without actually completing things) is the request for an 'External Product ID' but it looks like this can overridden by clicking the 'no ISBN' option.
I didn't go through with finalising it but if it is possible, this is just completely nuts.
It would go a long way towards explaining why the book catalogue is now flooded with bogus duplicates.
What were Amazon thinking when they added this 'feature'?
:-o
It does have legitimate uses. It saves me a lot of time.
Hi Peter, it's not what you think! At first I thought the same as you, that the add a product feature had been completely revamped, but it hasn't. When you are faced with the blue bar saying 'Copy Listing', above this you will see the 'Sell This Product' Button, which is greyed out and and turns into a 'No Entry' symbol when you hang over it, suggesting that you can't simply add the product any more, you have to copy it. In fact YOU DON'T. Simply go to the box above this, which has the word 'Condition' in it. Click on this box and select the condition of the the item you wish to sell I.E. 'Used, Collectible or Refurbished'. This activates the 'Sell Product' button. From here onwards it's back to the normal sell product screen. Why? Who knows! It does mean that the 'New' product option is no longer available, so I don't know how you add a product, which is 'New', if you wish to sell one, I've not faced that problem yet. Hope this helps.

The question remains - what is the 'Copy Listing' option for?
Does it allow sellers to clone exisitng ISBNs and/or EANs into new ASINs that have no reference to external identifiers?
If so, it is a recipe for catalogue chaos (in BMVD, at least)..
