Reimbursement Unfairly Low – FBA Lost Inventory, Only $7/Unit for $19.99 Product
Hi fellow sellers and moderators,
I’m reaching out for advice and support because Amazon has lost 21 units of one of my FBA products (FNSKU: X0049TOJC9, ASIN: B0D6L9R3Y1), and I received a reimbursement of only $153.30 — that’s about $7 per unit, far below the actual selling price of $19.99 and my list price of $24.99.
I am the manufacturer of the product, and even after providing:
A sales report showing $19.99 average sale price
A screenshot of a previous case where I was properly reimbursed at the correct rate
Amazon support continues to respond with the same message:
“We will not be able to make any additional adjustments.”
This is also the second time in three months that Amazon has lost my FBA inventory. The first time, I was reimbursed fairly. This time, it feels like Amazon is ignoring the evidence and minimizing seller losses.
Has anyone else experienced this recently?
How were you able to successfully escalate a reimbursement dispute?
Any advice on how to get this to the Seller Performance team or an FBA reimbursement specialist would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Icoolcat

But how much would you have netted if you sold the item? How much did it cost to produce?

We have a similar case, where Amazon Stole our inventory, then short-changed us for a fraction of the cost, then Amazon proceeds to resell our inventory for full market price.
Amazon is a Liability for Small Businesses.

not sure if it helps, but Amazon stopped reimbursing for the sales price of the FBA items a while ago. Now reimbursement is based on sourcing or manufacturing cost. If you go into SellerCentral, you can go to your FBA dashboard, go to the inventory tab and choose Inventory Defect and Reimbursement and there should be a button in the top right on that page that says "Manage Sourcing Costs". On that page, you can see what Amazon reimbursement is for each SKU you sell via FBA. This is where you can also submit sourcing or manufacturing documentation to request a higher valuation.

Here's The Bigger Picture
This system puts sellers in a precarious position: they are penalized for logistical errors they didn’t cause, underpaid for inventory Amazon is responsible for, and denied clear insight into how their goods are tracked or handled. For a platform built on third-party seller contributions, this kind of practice not only erodes trust — it borders on exploitation.

We recently had 3 boxes (totaling 36 units) lost during the AWD to FBA transfer. After nearly 60 days of back-and-forth and multiple follow-ups, Amazon issued a reimbursement—but it was significantly below our actual product cost. This was for an ASIN with consistent sales for over a year, not a new or unproven listing.
What’s more concerning is that none of the associated costs were factored in: import freight, customs duties, shipping to AWD, and AWD-to-FBA transfer fees, etc.
Fortunately, this shipment was relatively small. Moving forward, we’ll be shipping in smaller batches to reduce risk. But for a small business, the loss of a larger shipment—without fair compensation—could be devastating.
Has anyone successfully escalated a case to recover these additional costs? Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.
