Buyer demands refund on seeing item cheaper
Can’t believe the gall of some people - see this email just dropped in my inbox:
hi I was doing my weekly shop at tescos gaywood kingslynn and noticed they had this exact phone for £10 that’s half the price of what I had to pay so as you can imagine I’m not impressed and it leaves me asking the question to why you are selling this item for double the price ??? it can also been seen on the tescos internet site to prove my statement I would have liked to return the item to you to get a refund to buy the half price one from tescos however I have thrown out the packaging i am asking for some of my money back as it seems wrong to have paid double the price for this item many thanks

What did you do?
Walk under a ladder?, break a mirror?
Must have done something to attract these type of buyers…
Haven’t you got to do something like throwing a pinch of salt over your left shoulder to ward off these evil spirits

Perhaps should have checked prices elsewhere before buying on Amazon, but must be someone else’s fault for their inability to make informed decisions, I am assuming they are over 18?
They are of course within their rights to return for this, or any reason within 30 days and pay for the return postage, so would reduce their perceived saying…but then they have dumped the packaging, so can’t return in the same condition as sent.

If he’s thrown away the packaging, then he’s lost the right to return the product on a “change of mind” basis. So, he’s completely at your discretion as far as I’m aware. In any case, he’d have to pay return postage.
Sadly however, if he opens an A-Z, then Amazon have been known to enforce claims equally as bizarre as this. Plus, given the irrational nature of his message, the chances of a negative feedback is high in any case. The price you were selling it for is irrelevant. He had the choice to either buy the product at the price listed or not to, and he chose to buy it. If he’d had seen it for double the price elsewhere at a later date, would he have sent you the difference post sale?
If it’s any consolation, I had someone request a return for the very same reason and, once granted, they didn’t bother sending it back.

Yep. You paid £20 for the phone.
Did anyone force you to purchase it at that price? Were you tied up with threats to your life if you failed to purchase the phone at £20? Were you forcibly prevented from searching on line for alternative purchases at a cheaper price?
If you can answer yes to all those questions then we will refund. Otherwise, if you can return it in the pristine condition it was delivered to you we may consider a refund.
Have a great day.
(Sorry I realise that is no help )

Returns Request and A-Z opened over the weekend due to change of mind by buyer. Returns Request accepted but Amazon have still closed the case in the buyers favour even though the buyer has stated the item has been received. Anybody any views on how to appeal the A-Z and have it overturned. I have provided the facts in the initial appeal but they have just replied with the generic email saying the decision will not change and further emails may be ignored.
ANY advice would be very helpful
I have been selling on Amazon for a number of years and usually i am able to appeal with success but this one has me stumped. I am wondering if it may well be a competitor.
Any views on this?.

I would suggest to them that they buy the one from Tesco and send that back to you unopened so you can give them a full refund but point out that they will have to pay full return postage and suggest that they send it Royal Mail Signed For or Special Delivery as you cant be responsible if the item goes missing in the post. When they realise how much the postage will eat in to their £10 saving and the hassle going to the post office is they may not bother

I bought a jigsaw puzzle set on Amazon for twenty odd quid in new condition, only to see the same one new and still shrink wrapped in a charity shop for £2.99 (I kid you not). I haven’t opened the one I purchased on Amazon I’m now wondering if I should return it. That said, being a normal person I wouldn’t dream of shafting an Amazon seller.
On a tangent… I also bought for my wife a cake release spray using Amazon Prime (FBA). It cost approx £11 and was tiny when it arrived and the spray can felt half empty. When I queried this with Amazon they said they were all the same but if I was unhappy I could send it back. Accepting what I was told I said I’d keep it, no problem. Then the agent offered to open an A-Z for me. Being a seller I was shocked at how quickly an A-Z claim was offered to be opened for me. I said I did not want to open an A-Z claim and that given the circumstances I’d keep the item. The agent offered a refund, which I said was unnecessary but they insisted they refund and they did.

Refund him half the price. Then let him pay the postage, and Mr Smartie will be out of pocket.

Yes but the Tesco phone will be locked to Tesco Mobile.

tell him to buy the Tesco one and use the packaging to send yours back in.
