How to stop Automated Return Labels being produced at my cost?
Hi,
This is a new thing that amazon has come up with that is horrendous. I sell a lot of items that are low priced and it seems that the only consideration Amazon has thought about her is the buyer and not the seller.
I had a return the other day where I paid for the label and didn’t even know about this feature so gave a full refund to the customer only noticing a few days later I had been charged £3.30 for the hermes label so therefore could no longer offset the label cost from the customer even though the customer was actually at fault.
Well I have had another return now at £3.30 again, the item cost £1.99, so I lose out yet again. I have been charged it because the customer said they received an item that was not as described, I told asked the customer what part of the item is not as described and they said they purchased it because they read someones review that my item will fit a bracelet, well I have no control over what another people write when they do reviews on my product, that is nothing to do with me, it said nothing in my product listing that it fits bracelets or is used for bracelets and it clearly has the size of the item in the listing. It is 100% as described.
So I contacted amazon and they told me I can do returnless refunds set up, well that is not fair as this is a loophole for fraud. It’s not my fault they purchased the wrong item, I already lose out having to refund the postage for sending it to them, why should I have to refund them fully, pay the postage to send it to them to lose out more money and they also keep the item, it’s just a win, win situation for the buyer and the seller loses out always.
I then was told you can set up a returnless refund so that you make the rules and can set it so you can message the buyer to come to a resolution with the buyer about the return, how can this be done within the settings, does anybody know? I really would like to do it this way where I can discuss and come up with a solution with the buyer and then if I’m at fault they can either keep the item or I pay for the return using my own method to have the item returned and not paying £3.30 for the return which is expensive when most my items fit in a large letter sized envelope and can go as that. £3.30 is for a parcel.
Thanks

It says in the returnless refunds policy on amazon the following:- “You can either automatically issue a returnless refund via rules you define, or you can work with the buyer via buyer-seller messaging for a specific return.”
I want to do it so that a returnless refund does not happen or a prepaid label that I get charged for, I want the second option where I can work with the buyer via buyer seller messaging for a specific return solution just like I use to do. How do I go about setting that up? Thanks

The only items where you can override the prepaid return label process are those that are high value. But the amazon guidelines suggest they need to be over £100.
Items identified as hazmat will also not have a label applied automatically, but this is again automated by amazon.
Note you aren’t charged for any labels until the customer sends the return back and depending on the return reason the customer gave, you can deduct the value of the label from the return. So on a £1.99 item you could refund nothing (though I appreciate you still lose out). I know where a buyer has given a false return reason - where the return is deemed seller fault but isn’t - some sellers are using the deduct a percentage option when refunding, though you have to provide photos.
Finally, I do note you mention your item is compatible with bracelets. Do note that jewellery is free returns on amazon anyway, irregardless of the return reason.
