Customer requesting VAT invoice directly from me?
I’ve sold a book for £9.99 which is not a vatable item and the customer has messaged me directly asking for a VAT invoice? Is this normal and surely amazon provide the VAT invoice on sale? New to this so any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Have you signed up to amazon vat services ?
If you are unsure, go to the order and it will say manage invoice if amazon have sent one and upload invoice if they haven’t
If they haven’t, you will need to send the buyer a receipt if you are not vat registered or a zero rated vat invoice if you are registered

It is mandatory to provide an invoice/receipt for all sales marked as from a Business Customer or if the buyer requests.
If you are not VAT registered then you cannot provide an invoice, it is a receipt.
Amazon will do it automatically for you once you declare your exempt status via the second link below, for any future sales, but you will need to create one for the current sale - use www.invoice-generator.com
Once details filled in, download it to your computer, then via the ‘Upload Invoice’ button on the Shipped orders page.
You can then tell your customer that the invoice/receipt has been uploaded to their account.
Amazon generated invoices (recommended)
Amazon can generate VAT invoices or receipts on your behalf at no cost and make them available for customers to download. VAT registered sellers can activate the VAT Calculation Service and benefit from automated invoice generation. Sellers exempt from VAT registration in both the EU and the UK can declare their VAT exemption status and benefit from automated receipt generation.
