Is anything changed with German Customs? Why are they charging fees to customers?

Hi

I’ve started receiving complaints from customers about having to pay customs fees on their orders. The parcels were sent via Royal Mail with IOSS details included and CN22 labels attached

Has anything changed in Germany’s customs regulations that we might not be aware of?

Not that I'm aware of. Were they business customers? Which IOSS number were you using; the one ending 1405?

We're having more and more issues like this. Customers complaining that they've been charged customs fees on orders that have been sent with IOSS details, under the value threshold, electronic data provided via Royal Mail, etc.

Don't know if the issue is with Royal Mail passing the data on, or the receiving countries making the mistakes. Happening frequently on parcels to Germany France and Italy for us.

Germany seem particularly bad for refusing items and returning to sender if the label has a business address. I guess they think it's a business order and therefore not eligible for IOSS? As if no one has ever ordered a personal item to work to avoid missing the delivery...
