Do I have to get new Bar code? if there is already bar code on product?

Hi,

I am new on amazon. my question is about UPC or bar code.

I am thinking to launch my first product, my Chinese manufacturer has sent me a sample and I am happy with the quality. There is a product (bar code) on the box and product details are available on google but when I try to add product in my listing I can’t find that bar code on amazon.

My question is do I have to buy a new bar code from GS1 or will able to sell with the existing bar code. This is my first product so I’m not bothered about my own branding. Similar products are available on amazon but bar codes are different.

Can someone please help me and adv me on this matter?

Is it best to find a similar product on amazon and add product?
Can I use the existing bar code or have to buy a new one?

Your help will be appreciated.

Regards
JHM

Hi you may have issues with Chinese products especially as a new seller as there’s so much counterfit comes from there from the likes of Alibaba.
Amazon will ask you to verify supply chain at some point if your starting with your own brand so from design through to production and back to you here in UK - If buying wholesale goods they will just ask for invoice showing 30+ units most likely but be aware they will likely refuse Chinese invoice.

So back to your point if packing has a barcode on and you have a manufacturer saying they have manufacturerd an item for you but give you a box with a barcode on it sounds like it’s not what you asked them to manufacturer as I’m sure you would not have had that on the design.

Amazon will only accept GS1 Barcodes - If an item has a barcode on it already this must be used.
The brand needs to match that listed in the GS1 database.

My advice to you would be to maybe look at starting off with UK goods with amazon until you have some experience behind you.

Maybe time to visit Costco  and see if they have any good deals.
