have you checked whether the label states small parcel? maybe it was sent as a large letter by mistake?

Have they sent you a picture of the incorrect postage sticker on the item saying it was £3.50?

How sure are you on the size as 44cm is very close to the upper limit for small parcels of 45cm had you measured it.

I had one for a large letter but heard nothing from RM. I know my weight was correct too, 100 gm. I did wonder if it was a scam. Customer demanded £3.50 I stood my ground and no more heard about it. I weigh everything.

Only personal mail should give the customer a surcharge. Anything posted on account and the surcharge should be applied to you directly as the account holder.

We have had a few of these in the past, whether accidentally or a scam. Usually the buyer has had multiple items delivered, one of which has a surcharge, which is actually for a different item from a different sender, not us.

I wonder sometimes whether people get these notices then try to send them to every seller that they have purchased from to attempt to get as much money back as possible.

If postage purchased via amazon shipping the customer will get a card saying insufficient postage paid, and on getting parcel a yellow sicker will have surcharge amount on address label, its the customer that pays it, I know as a new member of staff sent items as large letter instead of small parcels, I asked customers for photo of parcel with address label and yellow sticker showing to prove surcharge, I had to refund as its not charged back to amazon shipping like it would with Royal Mail

i would raise the matter with royal mail, having read other posts on here royal mail tends to refund you when you can prove the right fee was paid.

maybe a over keen royal mail employee? but worth chasing.

If you are without a shadow of a doubt that the charge is applied to your package, all you can do is refund the customer and chase Royal Mail for it, ask the buyer to keep the box, even better if she can take photos of her measuring it to prove it is within small parcel sizing.

Yep had this many times over the years too. I only ever send the exact same size/weight envelope, and doubled checked with post office stamp usage is 100% correct. Scammy RM.

Worst than that, often items I’ve sent are delivered back to myself! No return sticker, no known reason for return! And I’m not the only one this has happened to locally either as heard a women complain in the post office about the exact same thing! Seems postman completely ignores the actual delivery address in big bold letters on the front of the envelope, and instead delivers to the tiny return address on the back. Bonkers!
