VAT registration in France

A while ago I saw some posts about the need to register for VAT in Germany but I cannot find them and am sorry if I am asking this question again. We have a similar problem with France (by an e mail but no performance notification).

We are a UK company, the beneficiaries are UK residents, with stock only held in the UK, Amazon.fr are now asking for our UK VAT number to continue trading in France. However our turnover is below the UK threshold and we do not need to register for VAT and have not done so as there is no requirement, Our French sales are extremely low and are far below the French tax threshold.

We would be grateful if someone who has managed to make this point to .FR successfully and avoided the .FR account being suspended. The HMRC link the e mail contains make is clear that UK companies below the fax threshold have no need to register but obviously whoever wrote the ,Amazon email does understand the issue.

Al help appreciated
Thanks

Could you post the full e-mail here to see what you are dealing with?

Maybe someone will be able to help, if you include a screenshot.

From the e-mail it sounds like Amazon is giving you a deadline of 6 days to submit a VAT number in your UK Seller Account to avoid the marketplace from being blocked, they are not talking about the French site.

I know about multiple sellers who got suspended over not having an UK VAT number, despite being UK residents.

I wouldn’t take the e-mail lightly. You are using a virtual address as your business address and this is what usually triggers this notice. These addresses are not considered a physical address in the UK for tax purposes, which is one of the requirements to be viewed as a UK company and eligible for the treshold.
