Amazon pricing algorithm does not consider item condition; used vinyl, cds, collectibles, etc.

Have any sellers of collectible goods such as vinyl records, cds, books or toys found an effective way to keep their listings from being search suppressed for pricing violations?

When reviewing listings which have been search suppressed for 'Fair Price Violations,' oftentimes the products are 'Like New,' while the next highest price offer may be in worse condition ('Very Good, Good, etc').

Ex. My copy of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" is listed as 'Like New' for $50, but the next highest price is $40 in 'Very Good' condition, and as a result, my listing is search suppressed because I 'priced it too high.'

I understand that the algorithms are blind to certain variables which are perhaps beyond their capabilities when determining which listings are overpriced, but I certainly thought that condition of all things would at least be a factor.

Based on what I've seen with our store's listings, it appears my assumption was incorrect, and that condition makes absolutely no difference to the algorithm.

Amazon Seller Support has been (obviously) unhelpful when asked for assistance navigating this odd factor of the market. It seems as though Amazon really does not carve out even a small chunk of its resources to help sellers of collectible goods, who make up an insignificant portion of the market compared to bulk resellers and drop shippers.

If any other sellers of collectibles have experienced this issue repeatedly and found a successful strategy for preserving at least some of their listings and preventing search suppression, I would be more than grateful for your advice or commentary.

I hope this post will generate meaningful discussion to help other small businesses on Amazon maintain profit margins as Amazon continues to put the squeeze on them.

Please keep the discussion civil; we should be banding together in this bizarre e-commerce landscape, not fighting one another!

Yes, sell them on an appropriate venue like E-bay.

Seriously, I’m trying to sell some Dead/Furthur/Lesh posters I inherited from my brother and I cannot imagine trying to deal with that stuff on Amazon.

The price bot has a lot of issues, and even more issues dealing with any item not freshly manufactured and sold against a contemporary list price. Unfortunately, there is no way around this. The bots cannot be denied. The bots reign supreme.

Did you list it as “Used Like new” or Collectible Like New"?
