Sending to FBA EU

Hi all,

So now that PAN Eu has stopped I want to send some stuff to Amazon DE.

I have gone to create a shipment via UPS Small parcel DE and it has allowed me, my question is there is no option/details regrading customs.

Do we need to do anything and how or do I just send off the box

I would also like to know

It looks like you need to speak to UPS and open an account with them just for duties and VAT for other countries when sending your fba stock in

Hi Chaps,

I am happy to report how this works for you. Amazon suspended the partnered carrier service for a while - they have now reinstated it, but it just says once you’ve booked the consignment, you must contact UPS - not very helpful!!

To begin with, you must have the following to do FBA in Europe now:

1). VAT registration in the country you’re shipping to.
2). UK and European EORI numbers

If you don’t have these, sign up for Amazon’s VAT services and their partnered tax agent will sort it out for you.

Moving on, let’s assume you are registered and have your numbers. Once you booked the shipment in the normal way with Amazon, you DO NOT need to contact UPS about the customs clearance. You can book the collection and UPS will fly your packages to their local hub in the destination country.

Once there, their customs clearance team will contact the importer of record to clear the goods. It is very important they contact you and not Amazon and so you need to make this clear on the box.

What I decided to do is, I made a label saying UPS - PLEASE READ DOCUMENTATION IN WALLET. I then made up a template customs declaration form that I can print in different languages and put in one of those plastic document wallets, which is stuck on the box.

That should be enough to get clearance for you. I sent a consignment to Germany a few days ago and nothing has gone wrong yet. If UPS mess up I’ll let you know but it should be okay.

Your customs declaration should be along the lines of the following:

Exporter of Record (your business name, contact details and UK EORI number)
Importer of Record (your business name, contact details and Eu EORI number)

Type of goods being moved
Country of origin (put UK unless you absolutely can’t, otherwise duties may be payable)
Taric code for the goods
Quantity of the goods
Consignment value (I put the value of mine in both sterling and euros)

Hope that helps and good luck!

It’s getting worse. After I responded by explaining (for the second time) that we need to be contacted ref. the clearance, I received this reply which suggests they intend to attempt delivery to Amazon’s warehouse without clearing the shipment first. The tracking shows a triangle with an exclamation mark in it - it says ‘Delay’. Their message reads:

Dear John,

Thank you for your response.

On checking our records again, your package is expected to be out for delivery today anytime until the end of the day. Once the import charges have been provided, please make sure they are settled so that the delivery can proceed without any issue.

Kind regards,

Neal P.

Well the guy at UPS got this completely wrong. Here is his latest email:

Dear John,

I understand your concerns with regards to this shipment.

After reviewing our records again, I must correct and clarify some points from my prior response. The package is still waiting to be exported from the UK to Germany as it’s already been cleared for it by UK customs. As no issues have been reported yet and since you advised that you added information on the package on who we should contact for customs clearance, please continue to monitor the delivery’s progress online at our website. You may also make use of the Send Updates feature of ups.com to be automatically informed on any changes by either email or text.

Please accept my apologies for any confusion I may have caused.
