Amazon (FBA) has automatically refunded all orders relating to an ASIN from months ago

As per the title, I’ve just been scanning through recent payments and refunds from the last couple of days, as my balance seemed lower than expected.

In short, back in November/December, I dabbled in a bit of confectionery selling. It was going pretty well. Customers were paying top dollar for FBA delivered sweets/chocolate!

One ASIN I was selling was 3-packs of Terry’s Chocolate Oranges. They were selling pretty well, sold about 40 packs of 3 before stock ran out. All my sales took place between 2/12/18 and 13/2/18.

On 30th March 2019, within the space of 30 minutes, every single order was automatically refunded. Definitely not returns, as to the best of my knowledge, grocery products cannot be returned.
Possibly a product recall, as I’ve heard that when a product is recalled, all previous customers are automatically granted refunds by the Zon.

Eitherway, this seems CRAZY!

Now I’m at a loss of 120 Chocolate oranges, fulfilment costs, Amazon refund commission and whatever else I’m likely to get penalised on. Surely this is not right…

Any advice on this one? I’d like to think that an Amazon appeal will lead to some cash back my way, but this is Amazon we’re talking about  For the record, the ASIN was B009ZY9I0K and does no longer seem to be available on Amazon.co.uk

Regards, a man with no more chocolate oranges in stock

You are right, in case of recalls, Amazon will refund every buyer who purchased the products to avoid liability.

These actions are not subject to appeals and I can only suggest you to get in touch with the manufactuerer when seeking a compensation.

That’s a shame, as they are my Mum’s favourite (milk not dark for her…) and I was was willing to give my advice freely in return for a boxful !

Agree with Kika, it sounds like a recall… check any business and product insurance policies you may have to see if you are covered in case of a product recall.
