Fraud customers

what will be the best action to take against a fraud customer recently our courier delivered a parcel and they always deliver a parcel if someone is available to receive the parcel. Now the customer is contacting us and saying that he didn't receive it and the courier has a sign proof also but the buyer says it's not his sign.

It certainly sounds like it could be a buyer who knows how to play the system.

Essentially, you can...

  • Choose to believe the customer and refund. Some couriers have a process where they require the customer to sign an agreement that confirms the order did not arrive
  • You can choose to stand your ground. It will then likely go to an A-Z Claim which you would need to appeal. Now, if you have plenty of evidence, you may win the A-Z claim, but it is in no way a guarantee. If you do lose the A-Z, you could be liable for the refund and it might impact your ODR

If you disagree with the outcome of the A-Z, which if you lost I guess you would, you could email managingdirector@amazon.co.uk, then look at mediation, then you'd be looking at a letter before action to Amazon (you can do an LBA to the customer, though in theory, this can lead to restrictions on your amazon account under amazon policy)

Who is the courier?

Have they got a photo of the delivery?

Have you got GPS Tracking?

Who signed for the parcel, as since Covid, it may be the delivery driver, not the Buyer.

I'd tell the Buyer you will ask for further information from the courier, also they may contact the police and their security investigation department.

Ask if they have asked everyone at their address and neighbours as often another person in the house, or neighbour can take in the parcel and assume a Card left and not say anything.

Inform that a claim can be raised, but only once all the information collected.

Provide a PDF of details so far, such as a copy of the signature, any delivery photo, any email from the courier to say item delivered. On the PDF, also have a link to the courier website and a screenshot to prove delivered.

With the PDF of details, often a Buyer 'finds' the item was at a neighbours, etc.

Sometimes though, the courier GPS shows in the wrong place, even though the person who signed for it has the identical name to that on the parcel! - then the courier has to go back to where it was wrongly delivered.

So, maybe a scam, maybe not, which is always the issue, who to believe, as couriers often do not check properly either.

Oh, and to add, sometimes left in a so-called 'Safe place', so check behind the bin, in a shed, etc, as a bin or shed has signed for parcels many times - and located there if you ask your customer to check around their home in outbuildings, etc
