Can't make ship by date

I got an order while I’m out of town and therefore can’t ship by the ship-by date. I’ve asked the customer if they could cancel and reorder in a few days. What happens if I can’t make the ship-by date?

You either cancel and get hit for 7 days on your metrics or you ship late and get hit for 30 days on your metrics. You cannot assume the buyer will even respond or should if you didn't have your store on vacation.

It is a violation of policy to ask a buyer to cancel for a seller-faulted reason. It has always been unethical -- Amazon finally got around to forbidding it.
