Tax liability assessment for unpaid UK VAT
Hi Everyone
Getting pretty desperate here. We have had our payments stopped as we have been accessed as owing VAT. We have never been VAT registered since we started selling as we are not making enough so Amazon has been taking the VAT from sales. Now they have "assessed us" as owing £2632.67. How can this be? We have submitted replies and opened cases to no avail, we just get auto replies.
Does anyone have any suggestions? We cant afford to pay the VAT again so thats not an option.
Would appreciate any help here
Thanks
Lee

If you are a UK resident and selling on the UK site Amazon do not take VAT from your sales. You pay this yourself to HMRC if you are Vat registered - if not VAT registered then no Vat has been paid by either yourself or Amazon.
If you are not a UK resident but selling on the UK site then you should have been VAT registered from the start as a NETP and would owe back tax. There is no "not earning enough" threshold if this is the case. Incidentally having a buainess based in Uk does not count if you are not a UK resident.
What makes you believe Amazon have been deducting the VAT ?

I have pretty much had the same email recently with a similar amount, I only sell in the UK and don't meet the VAT threshold and not getting anywhere with seller support. I am going over old emails and resending them to Amazon..
