Why is this not calculated in the price when I purchase "buy shipping" through Amazon?

I opened a case with seller support to find out why I was charged “other” fees over $3000 on 67 packages I shipped in December through UPS. The conclusion is: “Our internal team has completed the review and the orders include demand surcharge due to peak.”

Has anyone else seen fees due to “peak” on their account? Is this referring to peak shipping time, December? Why is this not calculated in the price when I purchase the label? They charged me 5x in fees what I originally paid for the shipping label. If I purchased these labels at the counter, they don’t end up charging my credit card a month later because it was a busier shipping season.

How do I know in the future if the price listed in “buy shipping” is the correct label price or the price before “peak?” Is there a calendar or schedule I have not seen?

Why does Amazon allow UPS to do this?

UPS does charge a surcharge, and Amazon simply passes in on to you. This year is over, so make sure you pay attention to all notifications about surcharges next holiday season.

AMAZON: “Our internal team has completed the review, and the orders include demand surcharge due to peak.”

That means the case is closed.

You need to double check all your box/mailer dimensions and weights are correct to the dot. All shipping carriers scan your boxes/mailers and if it does not match they will audit and charge you. with that being said, these shipping carriers scan audits can be incorrect and need to be disputed directly with the carriers.

i don't agree with a lot of these posts, because useally it's sellers not using the correct dimensions or weight and then the carrier will audit them and charge them the correct amount.

I started using FedEx the last two weeks in December and I'm constantly getting hit with adjustments, and they are premium shipping so everything is double checked so I know the actual amount..but now Amazon is hitting me with fuel surcharges, residential, and so many extra charges..which now make sense why Amazon was displaying FedEx so cheap.

That's not okay, that's called bait and switch. Its illegal to advertise one price then jack up the price later on. Some days I was doing USPS, UPS, and FedEx, only did FedEx because of the pricing Amazon was displaying, normally UPS is cheaper for me..

This is exactly one of many reasons why the feds need to start looking into all of Amazon, not just prime...

I never used pirate ship or shipping easy and had this games played..if the pricing were displayed correctly I would of never used FedEx!! What a waste of my time. and just to throw it out there, FedEx audits show the same dimensions and weight I gave Amazon...

Why is “Peak” not included in the price we are shown in buy shipping when we purchase shipping labels? UPS knows if it is peak or not when they offer their buy shipping prices. Why does Amazon allow UPS to do this to us? Especially when UPS claims these charges are not in their system, they have no idea why we were charged these fees.

How is this not false pricing, price gouging, overcharging, or bait and switch? We use “buy shipping” to be protected from false claims such as these. Please help us, I need my $3,000 refunded.

Hello @Seller_32ZMm9zfeBF6v. I am following up on your questions about your recent Carrier shipping correction charges. This is a follow-up from our discussion in your earlier thread:

“Warning” UPS is stealing money out of your account with “adjustment” fees and they are showing up on your payments dashboard as “other fees”.

You were charged Additional Handling surcharges on your shipments. If you review the adjustment details, you will see $12.95 adjustments for "Additional Handling."

UPS additional handling surcharges apply to "Any package with an outer shipping container not made of corrugated cardboard, including but not limited to...soft plastic (such as plastic bag)..."

During peak periods, there is an additional surcharge for shipments that require special handling, such as your plastic-wrapped packages. I recommend reviewing UPS guidelines in Carrier shipping correction charges for packages and what may warrant additional charges.

We've had a UPS account for 23 years and this issue does not seem like UPS. Sure, if they audit a package size or weight, there would be an adjustment, but not 'peak' charges. This is coming from Amazon.

Fedex is a bit different, they will quote you a price, then hit you later with additional fees, especially 'rural' charges.

Amazon has always been good with lowballing the shipping price to make the sale, then sticks the seller with bill.

Call UPS, they are very helpful. If you have a rep, call them, or sign up for an account, then you'll have a rep assigned to you, one that is actually in this country.

I had the same problem: they charged me $32 for each package, even though these orders cost only $25. Worse yet, they charged me for an undelivered (lost) package - it's just unbelievable. The support team was no help; they simply told me to file a claim with UPS. I submitted it online, and now they are requesting additional documents.

I recommend you check each of your tracks to see if UPS delivered it.
