Payment account verification woes

We’ve been selling on Amazon for about 8 years. We went through the whole verification thing with no issues when they first brought it in a few years ago. We’re a UK based company with everything and everyone registered to the same UK address.

Just before Christmas Amazon emailed us asking us to “re-verify all your disbursement account or deposit method today”. Nothing has changed with our bank account so I thought this was odd, but I scanned in the latest bank statement and uploaded it as requested.

Today they have emailed to say that our verification has failed and asking for “A scanned copy of a certified bank letter for the business.”. They do not say why the original document failed verification (as I say, nothing has changed since the last time they verified the bank account) nor what a certified bank letter actually is. Does anyone have any idea what’s going on here?

Hi if it is a downloaded bank statement this is likely the issue they only accept those kind from a smaller number of banks.

yes - thats one thing in noticed when we had to reverify last month - if the bank statement shows 5 pages - you have to send all 5 pages

I can’t say I noticed that requirement. It can’t have been in place when I originally verified the account a few years ago as I’m sure I only sent the top page that time. I wonder why they are bothered about all the rest? It’s just a list of all our transactions for the month.

I’ve had a chat going with seller support alongside this thread and I asked her for the reason for failure but she couldn’t tell me (the bank account is “sensitive information” apparently).

I asked her about this requirement to send all pages and she just said “They don’t verified how many pages and the transaction, just verified the bank account details”. So I’m not really sure what to do. I’ve had a newer statement since so I guess I’ll try that with all pages and see if that will fly.

When they had it, I used to absolutely dread that little flag with a “1” in it lighting up at the top of the page to say something else had gone wrong.

I must admit I expected all this verification stuff to be a one and done unless something changed. Are they constantly re-verifying all accounts?

Update: I just went to the document upload page on my account and there was this nugget:

The previous document did not pass for the following reasons:

  • We require a letter from the bank stating your ownership/association with the bank account.

Then it says “you must select the owner of the bank account as it displays on the document you submit”. Then there is a choice of the beneficial owner’s name and the company name. I can’t remember whether that was there last time.

The other requirements are:

The bank account number ending in 6074 matches the account number on the document.

The bank account owner matches the name on the document.

The document is dated after August 8, 2020.

The document is not a screenshot.

No mention of uploading all pages if it is a multi-page statement. Where did it mention this on yours?

You will not be able to make updates to your information until the verifications are complete. Verifications can take over 24 hours, and might take up to 10 working days in some cases

This has now been updated, before it showed verifications can take upto 24 hours, now they said 10 working days, ha ha ha - they got time to update this and the estimated time is so far off the 5 months theyve taken for my verification, and still pending. Whos running the show ?

We had the bank verification too a few days ago. I submitted and it was rejected within hours for name not matching. They had given me two options to select, my name and the business name, both of which are written on the bank statement. The second time I selected my name instead and it was verified within 12 hours. They seem to be very quick at the moment, but they don’t send you an email after succesful verification, only if it’s failed.

Good luck everyone going through this.

What an absolute joke Amazon is. I’m having a nightmare verifying my account, that was already verified and never changed. I’m not in the UK to receive a paper statement, yet can’t use a screen shot of an online statement. And cant speak to a human about it either. And can’t access my money. Surely this is illegal? I’ll be fixing this issue, receiving my money, and leaving Amazon. They charge far to much for poor service in general. It’s a disgrace.
