Can I change a someone else's product listing?
Totally new at this so apologies if this is a stupid question.
I’m looking at uploading the dropshipping products I’ve chosen, and there are other people selling the same things. I know I have to upload my prices and compete for the buy box, but am I able to edit the actual listing at all? It doesn’t seem to be doing anything and I could only find it when I searched for the product number, not through amazon search…the title and description and everything are absolutely awful in terms of keywords, I’m not at all surprised it’s not selling. If I can’t edit the original listing there seems very little point me bothering to sell it at all, I don’t think it’ll be found at all in its current state! Am I just stuck with what the first person to sell it thought was good to put in the listing?
Help very much appreciated please, thank you!

Amazon take the best and most appropriate keywords and description etc from all info entered so whilst you cannot change the listing per se , you may be able to submit a request for further info to be added to the listing as long as you are not changing anything ie size or extra items in a bundle etc
One important factor though
What exactly do you mean by this ?

If you are going to list items for sale you need to use the barcode that is on the product, if it has one, and not just list against something that looks the same.
Also, as a new seller on the platform, dropshipping really is not the best model to start off with.
Did you get the idea from Youtube videos, by any chance ?

If the name of the drop shipper is Something Different, that’s there as they have brand registry on the product, so their brand name will appear as standard at the start of the title

The Something Different dropship model is fine for amazons rules on dropshipping but won’t be fine for a new seller. They don’t have a minimum order and have good offers for you to buy yourself though which would be a better starting point and less risky for your account although obviously would cost you some money.

It’s not down to them, as I said they’re fine for amazons rules on dropshipping, but you’ll need actual stock to pass the 3 ASIN check and also if you need any categories ungating. It’s your call really if you want to take the risk to your account but not sure it’s worth the risk on poor quality listings

For those who dont know Something Different Wholesale are a very large UK company who supply the Gift trade with stock on a wholesale basis. They now offer a drop shipping route BUT looking at the ASINs on Amazon the margins are VERY low as there is competition on nearly every product.
Changing product details is very difficult but adding additional detail may be possible. Dont forget Something Different probably never created the ASIN when it was physically listed on Amazon. A reseller would have listed the item using the detail on the suppliers website… including things such as barcode and obviously brand.
It is probably not a good idea as a new seller to only dropship although as a wholesale buyer from SD I know they ship same day for orders (cut off about 2pm I think but may be an hour earlier or later as never leave it that late as I only buy incense from them and always have large stocks so Im never in a real panic to get an order) and I know they deliver without fail next day…

I had the same issue with a listing, you can upload new images and description or keywords through the edit listing tool on seller central. Only use images that are on the manufacturers website and match the packaging and/or product. If it doesn’t update within 1 working day then contact seller support who’ll update it for you
