Amazon refused to take a payment for item now delivered
Hi, so i received an order for a cosmetic gift set to be sent to Italy on the 21st July. The customer paid £185.97. The item didn’t arrive on time obviously due to Covid and Brexit so i issued a refund. On checking back after putting in a claim with the Royal Mail the item has now been delivered on the 15th September. I contacted the customer asking if they wish to return the item or keep it and they want to keep it and pay for the item again. I informed them to contact customer services and ask them to recharge her card which she did and got this reply from them:
. I am astounded that they are letting the customer keep the item and not pay for it, Is this legal?46 replies

Of course it’s legal, it’s in the T&C’s to let Amazon make these decisions for you.
Whether or not it’s ethical is another thing entirely.
I think for this one, open a case up first for it, then escalate to the MD’s office.
At the least, if they are going to make these kind of decisions, then they should fund them.

I haven’t contacted the customer again yet as I think they will just say that Amazon have told them they don’t have to pay. Do I click on the request a review on their order? will this make Amazon change their mind?

Just contacted Amazon through the Help!!! page, spoke to someone who doesn’t think the item should be recharged even though the delay was due to Covid and Brexit even though the customer wants to pay. She said she will put in a report and send me an email. Not holding out for much hope.

this is all after you put in the RM claim - was that rejected or upheld because of the delay?

This is typical Amazon. This gets me so frustrated! I used to spend countless hours over issues like this but learned something. It will get you nowhere. As unfair as it is, I would just suggest to move on and count your losses. It’s going to take you more time to try to get to the bottom of this with obstacles along the way and still get a result that you won’t be satisfied with. Instead what I do now, is spend that time I would be spending getting the money back to bring more sales in. At the end of the year just count your losses and just make sure you’re ahead. Good luck!
