Item recommended to be a different category
Hi
If anyone can help it would be appreciated. I am trying to list my first item on the Amazon Seller website. I have got everything competed ok, then it automatically comes back saying that Amazon has chosen a better category for it to be submitted under. I press to agree with Amazon and it resets everything to a new listing to start again. Do I have to start a complete new listing under the category Amazon recommended? GTIN etc is all ok, just the listing issue.
Thank you in advance.

Hi @Seller_3jzWluAwpBceC,
When listing your first product on Amazon, it’s generally a good idea to accept Amazon’s suggested category. Amazon’s system uses advanced algorithms to analyze product information and suggest the most appropriate category. This helps ensure your product is discoverable by customers searching in relevant categories.
However, it’s important to review the suggested category carefully. If you believe the suggested category isn’t the best fit for your product, you can choose a different one. Keep in mind that:
- Selecting the right category is crucial for product visibility and searchability.
- Some categories have specific requirements or may require approval before listing.
- Incorrect categorization can lead to your product being less visible to potential customers.
If you’re unsure about the suggested category or want to explore other options:
- Review the category-specific style guides for detailed information on product requirements and best practices.
- Check if the category you’re considering requires approval.
- If needed, you can request a category change after listing by contacting Amazon Seller Support.
Remember, choosing the right category helps customers find your product more easily, potentially leading to better sales performance.
Regards,
- Manny
