EU & UK Tariff-free Trade Deal - Belgian Customer Charged Customs Duty
So on the 4th January '21 I sent a shirt to a customer in Belgium. RM tracking RV494825359GB. Belgium Post, Bpost attempted delivery today and asked customer for 37.11€ for customs duty & taxes. Shirt was valued at £34.99 which is almost a 100% charge on top of the cost of the shirt. All correct customs data was sent electronically correctly including HS codes, Country of Manufacture and EORI number, and so on…
Rightly so the customer refused delivery and I have had to refund in full including postage cost and the parcel will be sent back to me whenever? Also my manufacturer has sent goods to Spain by DPD last week only for the customer to be charged approx €200 for customs and duty…
As far as I understand aren’t we supposed to have a free trade deal with the EU…? Anybody else had this issue and any insight would be grateful? Is this how’s this is going to go now!!

Free trade is for goods manufactured in the UK and applies to duty tariffs only, VAT is still going to be charged.
If the Belgium customer bought on the .co.uk Amazon site then they are responsible for the VAT to import the goods. If they purchased on any of the EU amazon sites, then you are responsible for sending the goods duty paid (will include paying any VAT).
