Shipping Fragile Items
How do folk go on sending “fragile” items and keep the shipping cost down?
If your sending an item say a hat for example will you post it in a box and absorb the extra cost within the list price?
Is there a way to offer a boxed option at extra cost on shipping info?
With margins so tight putting every fragile item in a box will just inflate the cost when offering free shipping.
Any ideas or recommendations would be appreciated.

I’ve never understood people that say that. Surely you build in the cost of shipping into your selling price? Just add the cost of delivering the product safely to your customer in your selling price.
Unless you want to sell it like:
Take a chance - £10
Receive it in one piece - £11
The mind boggles.

I’m surprised you’re even asking this question.
If you send a hat in a floppy plastic mailing bag it’s going to get damaged and the customer will send it back, ask for a refund, open an A-Z and leave a negative feedback.
All for the sake of an extra couple of pound on your selling price.
Same goes for all your competitors, they have to send fragile items safely or pay the price. Everyone is in the same situation and so under the same costs. It’s still a level playing field for sending items.

Sounds to me like you are paying far too much for boxes. We carton virtually every order we send out and that frequently prompts positive feedback. We usually only spend between 10p and 20p per carton but it depends upon where you are buying your cartons.
We also offer free postage & packaging but build the cost into the price of the item.
