Shipping Charges for International Selling

I’ve just decided to try again at shipping overseas from the UK (after struggling with EORI numbers etc).
My first order has just arrived (from Sweden) and seems to have not charged for postage, even though my global shipping settings appear to show that shipping will be automatically charged.
I’m clearly missing something.
Also, how do I take VAT into account for global sales (without altering UK settings?)

Have they bought from the UK site or Amazon Sweden?

Just checked, and the order details state: “Sales channel: Amazon.se”

I’m clearly out of my depth on this.
I can’t see an obvious tab in seller central which accesses different countries and their markets, - I simply went to ‘global shipping’ and set postage rates for each country.

First of all have you setup the BIL tool to duplicate your offers on the other Amazon sites? It sounds as if you have

As TLS says you then need to create shipping templates on all the other sites and setup your postage charges accordingly - bearing in mind differences in VAT on the other sites. Do not forget that when setting up the shipping template on the other sites it is now the standard shipping charge you fill in - not the international section.

When using the BIL tool it is ‘supposedly’ possible to account for differences in VAT etc automatically on the various sites (never tried it but it is something it says it does) so that when your offer is duplicated the offer price is set properly taking any VAT difference into account. Amazon will remove the VAT from your disbursement anyway as it is responsible for remitting VAT. You report the sale as an export to UK HMRC so VAT is not applicable.

So basically if you have an item for sale at £12 on UK site you would pay £2 VAT. If the sale is on the French site then Amazon will do the VAT and pay you £10 but you have no VAT to pay HMRC.

However, I would not recommend having any international postage options in any shipping templates (UK or on any of the others). How Amazon calculates the VAT due on international sales may mean you losing out.

Thanks for all the replies.
It does sound like a task that is far too complicated and requires far more expertise on Amazon than I have.
I’m inclined to just stick with the UK market for now.
Thanks again though.

I’m old enough to recall trading with companies in the EU in the 80s, (pre-maastricht) and it was never this complicated (VAT collection was not required for instance).
