Are Amazon VAT fee service quotes correct? £33 per country?
Hello
I’ve just finished reading through a tread detailing the trails and tribulations of shipping into EU. What a roller coaster ride everyone has been through, but sounds like things are settling down now? With the change to import VAT into France coming up in Jan, I’m considering dipping my toes into EU and making use of Amazon six months free offer before it ends on 31st Dec. I have several questions please that I hope you can help with.
1. With regards to Amazon fees as stipulated here and via their downloadable calculator (below), it suggests that if I were to register for two countries it would cost £62 a month. Even if you were to use 7 countries, accordingly to Amazon calculator it would still only be £1699 per year, but I’ve seen some of you mention it actually costing you at least double that figure, so what am I missing here please?
2 If Amazon is now responsible for collecting VAT across the EU, why is seller VAT registration even required as surely VAT payments required from seller will always equal zero?
3 Initially I would like to sign up to France and Germany to test the waters, but where would you suggest I get my EORI from, France or Germany? Is it worth me trying to obtain this myself, or via Amazon Services? Side note, I can confirm I have UK EORI already.
4 Do you use a translation service for your listings and products, and if so can you recommend the service you use please?
5 @Aroha we too manufacture here in the UK, and see that you mentioned as a result there would be no duty to pay. Was that the case in the end, no duty for UK manufactured products?
Many thanks

Because each country requires anyone storing stock in their country to be registered for VAT there.
It doesn’t matter which country you obtain your EU EORI from. Any EU country will do, because you’re only allowed to have one EU EORI number.

i’ll try to answer to the best of my knowledge having gone through this over the past 4 months.

Amazon’s latest news is that the fees are payable from the first month of filing, so not sure if this 6 months free option is still valid (perhaps you don’t pay the monthly fee while you’re waiting for your VAT number. this is what it reads: “Starting January 1st 2022 Sellers joining the service will be charged a monthly fee starting at €33.30/month from the first month of filing (for one country, without fiscal representation) for VAT filings and fiscal representation.”

You will need VAT where you store your products and pay for the import VAT. i would suggest you start with one market and then expand after you get a feeling of the process and sales pickup.

As others mentioned, it doesn’t matter and you need only one for the EU. Wherever you sign up for VAT, Amazon can apply for your EORI number too once your VAT number has been generated.

You can use a translation service from Fiverr, there’s lots of them but choose someone who is native and not a language student; even if they’re fluent. (PS: keywords can be tricky).

Can’t answer 100% to that, but as far as i know, any import from non-EU Country is subject to Customs duty and VAT.
Keep in mind that VAT registration and EORI number can take up to 4 months, and you can’t store your goods or import them to the EU before you have them on hand (i learned the hard way).

Hello,
As I see almost all of the sellers are facing issues and big delays. So I guess the 6 months free plan is not really a free plan as you need 4 months to get a VAT number.
I tried to contact Amazon Vat services regarding our obligations after we will sign-up for this service, but as always they replied only with a mail with the basic services as they advertise and no more info. No more information and no charges analysis and fees that may apply.
As I understand if you don’t subscribe to this program (Vat Services) you don’t know what your obligations will be to each country.
If someone used already this service and sells products in Germany (through FBA) please tell me if I have to pay for insurance, full taxes, etc. I don’t live in Germany of course. I live in Greece so I have already an EU VAT and EORI number.
I own a startup company and even the expenses of just opening a VAT number are over my budget. Can’t imagine the expenses and obligations in case of a new VAT in another country (taxes, insurance, etc)
I tried to contact embasy, chamber of trade, etc and no one knows how to deal with this issue.
This happens for more than 2 weeks since Amazon deactivated my account cut off my few sales.
So if someone has already experience with this issue please give me more information as is also the last day that I can use the offer of VAT services and I want to know if this worths to get into.
Thanks in advance
