High sales fees.

Good evening!

So… I know this has been covered a lot in the forums and I have read a lot of the posts. But none of them give a definitive answers or suggestions. Let me break this down:

I’ve just started to sell new books (amongst other things) and the fees are prohibitively high, in my opinion.

here are the numbers:

*Sales price: £20.00 + Shipping: £2.99

*Sales Fees: approx £4.54.

This gives me a margin of around £2.20.

Amazon are literally making more gross profit from my sale than I am?! lol.

Anyway, is there something I can do to reduce these fees? I am a professional seller, so these fees are referral, digital and closing fees… or is this just the way it is?

My concern is that I am unable to promote or compete with the lowest prices available (which is, somewhat suspiciously, exactly the cost price, to the penny), and so will never be able to sell an amount to make it worth my while. Probably barely cover the cost of the subscription, I suspect.

It's just the way it is. There are lower FBA fees for smaller and cheaper items, but that's about it. Also for FBA sellers there's sometimes the option to reduce package size, but obviously there's a limit there.

The simple answer is dont sell on Amazon! Its horrible to say but unless your margin is 65% then selling on this platform is a waste of time. I feel for you, as so many people think Amazon is utoipia but unless you wrote the book, and self published, you will make next to nothing. I wish you well!

i disagree with others i sell on amazon and see it as investments.....for example i buy 100 items and Return of investment is between 8%-120% within 1 month.....

If you stop looking at the sale figures and fees and just the profit this is when you will make money

simple sums off mine

10,000 unit sold at average 45% return of investment =?????

they are ridiculous, soon many ppl will have their proper websites and will be able to sell on average with a minimum 20% cheaper than amazon and still get more profit from same item and this will be win win to seller and buyers as well.... this is what I hope will happen

Hi

Im also struggling with the cost of the fees, i am trying other outlets in the new year, but with amazon at least im getting quite a few sales. The other outlets dont seem to be as good as this.

Anyway good luck with your store on Amazon, I wish you well

I have been selling my own old books on Amazon for years. Today I got an order for one I priced at £3.20 a long time ago. Delivery allowance is £2.80 . Amazon fees are £3.24 ie more than the item cost. My earnings - £2.76 but the cheapest I can post it for is £3.25.

This is the end of me selling on Amazon.
