Product title and description changed after listing

I have been selling a 4 pack of items for the around 6 months, then suddenly today I noticed that the previous description of a pack of 4 items has been changed to a 500 pack without any notification to me.

From reading on the forums it appear that both other sellers and Amazon sales team can as they wish submit changes to a product description without any notification to other sellers who are selling on that product.

Amazon encourage 3rd party sellers to place offers on existing ASIN rather than adding new products to the catalog, yet if they let other sellers change the description without notification then they are putting other sellers accounts of risk of A-Z claims for not as described. Or they could get defects for having to cancel orders when you realise that the description had been changed and you are unable to fulfil the order.

Luckily on this occasion I noticed that the description had changed before I received any orders and therefore I was able to zero my stock level on this ASIN. I have tried to change it back to a 4 pack and as I write this but the description hasn’t been changed back yet.

Amazon need to sort this, if someone changes the description of an item that is being sold by more than one seller, it should notify ALL sellers who are offering that item for sale of any changes that are made before they go live. Other sellers should be able to appeal against any changes or given some time to remove the item from their inventory before changes go live.

Allowing anyone to change the description could be used by unscrupulous sellers as a tactic to damage the competition who might be selling an item at a cheaper price than themselves.

You will need to open a case with the Seller Support under “Products and inventory” - “Product page issue” - “Fix a product page” and request Amazon to change the details back.

Please note, that you will be asked to provide some proof, such as a link to the manufacturer’s website.

As well as getting it fixed, ask Amazon if they can determine who did it and punish/warn them, its clearly been done maliciously.

I had a case recently that was worse than this. someone edited a product I list beyond all recognition to a completely different product.
I only noticed because the listing got flagged with “Potential high pricing error” because the item I sell is about £500 and the product that it was changed to is a cheap Chinese copy of a different product for about £35.
I presume they did this to inherit product reviews from the original product, when you look at the reviews and Q&As they relate to different products.
But I don’t know how they were able to change a listing to a completely different product. When I try to edit a product (to correct things) Amazon makes you jump through so many hoops to make the slightest adjustment.
