ISBN conflicts with ASIN - unable to list new book
Hello, I work for a book publisher and I used to regularly list newly published books that were not in the amazon database.
For the last month, i get this error when creating a new listing:
The value “Luftwaffe - Secret projects of the third Reich” specified cannot be used as it conflicts with the value " for ASIN Z in the Amazon catalogue. If this is ASIN “1911639064”, update the value to match the ASIN data. If this is a different product, update identifying information (UPC/EAN/Part number/etc).
This is the ISBN of that particular book: 9781911639060
I used to create several new listings per month, but I get the above error on verything now.
I searched Amazon for this ASIN: 1911639064 - but nothing comes up.
Does anyone have any ideas?

It sounds like someone has already used the exact same product identifiers when creating listings, most likely on a different Amazon marketplace.

I’ll try anything! I’d like to contact support but i don’t know how to any more. How do i go about creating an EAN when the books only have ISBN? Thanks so much for your help

I’m having this problem too. All of our ISBNs are bought through Nielsen and registered. It has been taking longer and longer to get up onto Amazon’s catalogue and the last 20 or so just haven’t gone up at all. Amazon told me to manually add them to their catalogue, but I can’t do that as I have the ISBN conflicts with ASIN message. Twice it was because Amazon had typed ‘the value’ in front of my book’s title. The title then clashed with their record, hence the message. I had a battle to get them to put it right, despite it being obviously wrong.
I keep telling them there is something seriously wrong with their system and to pass it on to a manager, but never get anywhere. Now they are telling me that only ISBNs bought and verified by GS1 are valid. This despite the fact that GS1 redirect you to Nielsen to buy ISBNs!

I’ve spoken to Nielsen today, they have told me they are aware that there is a problem and Amazon are on it!
We are aware that Amazon is having technical issues at the moment and not all ISBN records that we send to them are making it through to their site or are being updated. We are passing all examples onto Amazon for investigation. I am afraid they have not provided a time frame for when this will be resolved.

Having had an email from someone working for Jeff Bezos today, I’m hoping they can give us some answers. I’ve directed them to this forum thread, so anyone else who has problems, make yourselves known!.

I am having this exact problem as well. I am a small publisher and none of the books we have registered in 2019 have come through to Amazon, without me asking them to manually create a listing for me. It takes a while with the seller support, but if you push hard enough they will (and can) make the listing manually for you.

I am going via my seller central account and logging a case with them through the platform there.

Here is a reply from someone on behalf of Jeff Bezos:
My name is Emma and I am a member of the Executive Seller Relations team. Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to your email.
I understand that you were having issues with conflicting details when listing your products.
I have investigated this for you, and I can see that when listing your products, the title was showing as conflicting against the details contributed by your listing. There had been an issue regarding the link between Neilsen and Amazon causing this.
At this time we cannot advise on when the connection will be corrected, as this involves both Amazon and Neilsen systems.
I have also reviewed the cases you have provided in your initial email, along with the ISBN, and I can see that these 3 problems have since been corrected. Please accept my apologies for the repeat requests for a GS1 link, this would be necessary for the creation of products other than books on the site.
Thank you for your understanding,
Emma

I pointed out that as it is an ongoing problem necessitating constant requests with Seller Support to add book ttiles, then Seller Support should be made aware of the problem so they can’t fix it quicker. I received no reply. When I then tried to log a case with Seller Support I found the ‘submit case button’ was inactive, I suspect that this is deliberate to reduce call volumes. I have received no reply from the resolutions team about this. Terrible customer service.!
