Just had this from the HMRC VAT people which may be useful to others.

The VAT Registration Estimator has been developed after feedback from small businesses suggested an online tool would be helpful to show when their turnover could require businesses to register for VAT and its effect on profits.

A business must register for VAT if:

• their total VAT taxable turnover for the previous 12 months is more than £90,000 – known as the 'VAT threshold' – until 31 March 2024 this was £85,000

• they expect their turnover to go over the £90,000 VAT threshold in the next 30 days

• they are an overseas business not based in the UK and supply goods or services to the UK (or expect to in the next 30 days) – regardless of VAT taxable turnover

A VAT-registered business must charge VAT on eligible sales and can usually reclaim it on eligible purchases. There are around 300,000 new VAT registrations each year.

The estimator can help any business to see what registering for VAT could mean, as well as linking to further information about the registration process. It is also a useful tool for businesses operating below the threshold and for those considering voluntary registration.

Hello,

Did anyone cancelled their VAT registration in UK and can guide me with the issue I'm dealing right now?

Short story

I was VAT registered, now I cancelled my VAT registration and I want to apply for VAT exemption for two reasons:

''Not required to register for VAT?

Declare your status and benefit from automatic receipt generation''

2. Avoid any VAT on all fees, if that can still be done.

After contacting amazon support several times through phone, chat , emails they asked me to delete the VAT number from my TAX Settings and I got same answers:

''kindly note automatic receipt generation is determined automatically by system algorithm and if it`s not showing on my account to apply for it, they can`t do nothing.''

Now the biggest issue is that I will have to create an invoice for each order and upload it on Amazon.

Any suggestions ?

I am new seller on Amazon.

My business is registered in the UK using a virtual address. I am a British citizen and resident in the UK.

I received a request from Amazon asking me to provide VAT registration information. I haven't had any revenue and therefore not reached the £90K threshold. It looks that Amazon will deduct VAT automatically if I have any sales.

This is the message I got from Amazon.

"You may be legally required to be VAT registered in the United Kingdom (UK) based on Seller Central settings.

Under UK law, all online marketplaces must prevent non-UK businesses that are storing products in the UK from offering products for sale after the marketplace becomes aware that the business is not meeting its UK VAT registration requirement."

Does any one know if I must voluntarily register for VAT if I am selling on Amazon?
