Why is creating listings so difficult?

I hate creating listings on Amazon, there is nearly always something wrong and quite often I am told at the end after spending a long time creating a complex listing with variations. Then most of the time Seller Support is clueless or give you the wrong solution.

Often I get strange error messages when creating a listing for a product with an EAN that is not in the Amazon database. The most common one is that the newly created ASIN clashes with another ASIN (normally a completely unrelated product) and I am supposed to change title and description to match this other product! This morning I was told I can upload a maximum of 0 images which means my listing will be search suppressed. Then I am no longer allowed to list products from a manufacturer although I have asked (again) permission to do so and that was granted last month. On top of that, I am now not even allowed to list my own brand and I am supposed to ask permission again. Also the form is heavy and slow, even with my laptop which is pretty fast.

No problem whatsoever when listing on eBay, Etsy or you name it. This is so time consuming and soul destroying. I know I am talking to a wall but I have to vent a bit.

Yes, variations are in my experience the most soul destroying with exactly the issue you describe (ASIN clashes with another ASIN). I've found reallocating a new barcode often gets around this issue but this can cause issues with any stock control program you are using (e.g. for example Linnworks). However, sometimes this fails to work and you end up with 9 of 10 variations listed and just end up not bothering with the 10th.

Had similar issues over the last couple of very long days! I'm not brand registered, but have always been able to list using my trading name as a brand name on the spreadsheet - all my EANs are GS1 with both the item title and brand name recorded on the GS1 site. Now, depending which upload file I try, I (eventually, after loads of other stupid errors) get stumped with either not permitted to use that brand name, or the EANs don't match the products. Ready to give up trying to list new items, will just sell them on eBay and Etsy.

Amazon have a habit of removing lisitng permissions for certain brands.

Some brands I only get days until I have to request permission again. Other brands I have had continuous permissions for several years.

There should also be the functionality to be able to list multiple times for the same barcode. Some brands use the same barcode for multiple different items.

A lot of it comes down to Amazon not trusting us to list properly. If there was more trust and sellers who listed incorrectly sanctioned it would probably be a better experience.

I have come to conclude that something is wrong with their software or architecture. this is not a normal way of doing business. Categories, Asins Barcodes all very clumsy. And Unfortunately no update from them.

TBH I have just about given up on creating new listings on Amazon.

Between telling me I do not have permission for a brand (I do), incorrectly assigned EAN's, ASIN clashes etc etc it is just too difficult. Then even when I report an obvious error - title partly in French for example, parent of a variation listing mentioning a specific size (parent title should not mention sizes) or a size variation listed on its own when it should be grouped - I am usually told only brand owner can make the change. So it stays with the error - how is that good for any customer/buyer?

How did these errors even get listed in the first place? Support are useless - they cannot do anything. So I have given up - I search on EAN and add my offer to the existing listing if it is there and the information correct. If not in catalogue already I dont bother anymore.

We have similar problems, we are the Brand Owner and we are still waiting on support to fix these issues from November, on all other market places its so easy, I have no idea why Amazon make it so difficult, it must be costing them a fortune in lost sales.

I know that's the infuriating thing. Yesterday, I created a new listing and it would not submit, no error message or anything, both the submit and draft button didn't respond I started again and safe it as draft every few minutes and eventually I managed to do it. It took most of the evening.

I stopped creating new listings for about 8/9 months last year, even because my account was in danger as Amazon decided I had opened a fraudulent account in Poland. I never opened anything but it took 5 months for Amazon to realise that. No apologies or anything. Therefore I stopped creating listings and sending stuff to FBA, just in case. Recently I have started again as I have some products that would sell well on Amazon. And they do, when I manage to create the listings.

It always happens at the END of the process.
