I need your help. I have received VAT number from HMRC and effective date is 1/02/25. My understanding is effective date is when vat can be charged to customers. If I update VAT in seller central earlier than effective date , chances are customer will be charged vat earlier.. When should I provide VAT number in seller central?

Hello @Seller_h44DwAVaFVB1W,
Let me clarify your concerns:
VAT Effective Date: You're correct that the effective date (1/02/25 in your case) is when you can start charging VAT to customers.
Updating Seller Central: It's generally recommended to update your VAT information in Seller Central as soon as you receive it. This is because:
a) Amazon needs time to process and verify your VAT information.
b) It ensures your account is compliant and up-to-date.
VAT Charging: Even if you update your VAT information in Seller Central before the effective date, Amazon's systems are designed to only start charging VAT from the effective date you provide.
When to Update: Given this, you should provide your VAT number in Seller Central as soon as possible. When you enter the information, you'll also be able to input the effective date (1/02/25). Amazon will use this date to determine when to start applying VAT to your sales.
Double-Check: After updating, it's a good practice to monitor your first few sales after the effective date to ensure VAT is being applied correctly.
Remember, updating your VAT information promptly is important for compliance, but it won't result in premature VAT charges to your customers. Amazon's system will respect the effective date you provide.
If you have any concerns after updating, you can always contact Amazon Seller Support for confirmation or clarification. To contact them, go to Seller Central > Help > Help and resources, or click here.
Regards,
Angie 🪷
