How to issue a receipt to a business customer
Good Afternoon
I’ve just been through the “mill” with Amazon because I failed to send a VAT invoice to a Business Customer.
I am a private MarketPlace seller and have been for several years. I am not a Business and only sell a handful of small items a year. The items I sell are very low in price with most under £10 each.
A Business customer purchased an item costing £8 and I just shipped it off as normal and did not know I had to issue an invoice.
I have now registered my VAT Registration Exemption Status but it seems I am still required to issue an invoice or receipt. How do I do this?
I always include an Amazon packing slip with the shipment which clearly shows what has been purchased.
As 99% of my customers are private individuals the other option I have is to reject Business Buyers. Am I going to get into to trouble for that as well?

you can just mock up your own using a template from online or use an invoice generator app
as you are not VAT registered you just need to put the usual things ie date, name, address, price - showing no VAT and then go to the order and click - upload invoice - note - it needs to be a certain format ie PDF
you will need to do that for all orders up to the date that amazon have told you they will do it for you now you have signed up

You cannot reject business customers, and why would you deny yourself a sale by cancelling the order, leading to a defect on your account.
Declare yourself exempt for VAT by using the link below, and Amazon will upload business customer invoices for you from now on.
Sellers exempt from VAT registration in both the EU and the UK can declare their VAT exemption status and benefit from automated receipt generation.
However, you will need to upload a receipt for the previous ones.
Many of us used www.invoice-generator.com - quick and easy to do - just need to change the currency to GBP, fill in the required info, and mention nothing about VAT, or you can state in the box ‘No VAT charged as not VAT registered.’

Because the order was placed before you declared your VAT exempt status they wont automatically upload an invoice for this order. You’ll have to make on and upload it yourself.
Amazon should automatically upload receipts for any future orders.
