Royal Mail Warning

A heads up that my brother who is a postie has just sent me the following message:

“I would avoid sending anything out now as it’s completely broken down, it’s gone mental”

Does not sound at all good for anything recently sent out via RM and tbh I’m very worried about all my FBA S&L deliveries now :frowning:

I wouldn’t worry about fba as you can’t be penalised for late delivery of those

Out of interest what area are you in as my postie said yesterday it was quiet

The Royal Mail Service Status page shows delays in a number of their mail centres which is probably to be expected as they recover

From the feedback on eBay I am getting and the tracking I have on a few parcel items I am actually seeing most items still getting to customers very quickly despite the strike action.

So much so I have switched Amazon back on for a few days (albeit with longer delivery dates) and will close it down again before the next 2 day strike next week.

My neighbour is a postie and likes to chat…if I get to see her today or tomorrow I will try and find out how things are around here!

My orders are being delivered within 2 days (posting RM24, not taking any chances with 48 service). I don’t post on strike days only.
There are some areas receiving post on strike days as well.

Well it might be the case where your brother is based but it hasn’t broken down here. Our delivery office at Ribblesdale wasn’t on strike and we received mail on Wednesday (latest strike day) and at our normal time both yesterday and today. The items received on Wednesday were received at Leeds MC at 3.20am (which I expected to be on strike) but still made their way here for the usual delivery times. No doubt various parts will be very busy but a lot of people already took measures to negate the effects of the strike, including Amazon themselves, who sent their returns back via EVRI instead of the usual Royal Mail.

It’s good to hear from many of you that the strike has so far affected some places less than others. I hope we sellers get through this period without too much grief.

I’ve tracked a few items from the weekend and half have been delivered, half haven’t got tracking… considering a scan rate of 76%, some may fall into that too, so surprisingly good so far!

2 days next week might cause more of a hassle, but we had the bank holiday in there, so it seems RM aren’t doing too bad.

On the Royal Mail FB page they seem to be saying that the mail centres are clear in some areas, but in other areas it’s “carnage”, I’m not sure what to believe, it seems they are trying to say it’s worse than it is to put pressure on getting the talks going between RM and the Unions. Talks of striking at Christmas, but a lot can’t afford more strikes after these and I think the Union will lose support for more strikes maybe. With cost of living rapidly increasing I can’t see a lot of people willing to strike after this round, but the pressure and bullying I see on the FB group towards those who go in because they need the money is shocking.

I don’t necessarily agree with striking personally, but it’s their choice… what I find interesting is the absolute hatred some people are showing towards RM and seem to actively be out to cause trouble and bully everyone into it.

We left everything on and continued posting before during and after the strike. Upgraded everything to Tracked 24. Found a lot of packages arrived next day, even delivered on the strike day. If not then the Saturday. Even those collected on the Saturday were delivered on the Sunday. So no delays or issues for us at the moment.

Interesting. I am in rural Wales and yesterday only had 1 letter (and one piece of junk mail!) despite several parcels in transit. I suspected there would be delays. What is interesting is I booked 4 items for collection today (free at present, which saves me an 8-mile round trip) then late last night got a message saying
We’re sorry but we were unable to fulfil your collection request.
If you’d like to arrange another collection, you can do so free of charge. Alternatively, you can take your item(s) to your local Royal Mail Customer Service Point or Post Office®.

We’re sorry for the inconvenience. This happened once before but my postie still arrived to colect them, we will see what happens later.

The issuse in our area (PE) is that they have not enough delivery staff due to retirements. long term sick and recent recruits who have left after just a few days/weeks. Our DO is Huntingdon Penfold Court and their rounds each day which get missed. Some the other rounds are growing each week Alconbury Weald (USAF Alconbury) and Old Houghton Poultry Station all now houses which are work in progress with a bunch of new address popping up each Monday on the round adding to the size and time taken.

My 1st class letters and large letters are taking about 4 days to arrive. I have amazon set to 2nd class shipping times with 2 day handling but I’m upgrading them all to 1st with extra drop offs at the post office wherever I can, and it all seems to be ok so far. Our post office in blackpool did have a collection on both strike days.
