Have the way in which review stars are calculated changed?

I have 2 products that have lost half a star and yet gained new 5 star reviews?

So one product was at a rating of 4.4 with 14 reviews I then gained a 5 star review and its gone to 4 stars?

The next one I had a 3.9(seemed to round up to 4 stars) no gain or loss in feedback and its gone to a 3.7(showing more like a 3.5) Anyone else see this?

I believe so, if you hover over your star rating it says:

“Amazon calculates a product’s star ratings using a machine learned model instead of a raw data average. The machine learned model takes into account factors including: the age of a review, helpfulness votes by customers and whether the reviews are from verified purchases.”

Yes, this happened to us too, several of our products lost half a star recently, all the reviews were verified ones.

It was confirmed to me today by a message from communities that an automated system now rates according to age of reviews, helpfulness and verified or not.

Expect more losses I would say. It certainly seems very unfair, especially when you see products enjoying 5 stars purely on unverified reviews. Where’s the logic in this?
