Problems uploading with inventory loader

Hi all, I have been selling books on Amazon since 2007, adding them one by one. I am trying to add a bunch of books and am now trying to add them with the inventory loader spreadsheet, instead of one by one.

So I did a test upload of 6 books, and they all rejected.

Here is the error report: each SKU has 2 errors, and they are same two errors for each SKU.

Error 1: SKU [my sku #] is associated to more than 1 GCID, which is not allowed. Please send a delete feed for this SKU and all other SKUs with the same attribute values [merchant_suggested_asin], and then resubmit the SKUs.

Error 2: This SKU is not in the Amazon catalog. If you are receiving this message after submitting a multi-marketplace inventory file and the designated marketplace for this error is different than the marketplace in which you submitted your file, this error is an indication that the Detail page for this item does not exist in the designated marketplace. Amazon is attempting to create the Detail Page for this item on your behalf. If successful, your listing will be created in the designated marketplace within 48 hours.

Now, according to the instructions on the template:
SKU: A unique identifier for the product, assigned by the merchant. The SKU must be unique for each product listed.

The error reports seem to be using SKU in a different sense, that of an ASIN. However, ASIN / ISBN is in a different column on the Inventory Loader template, and the number Amazon says is in error is definitely my SKU in the SKU column, and not the ASIN / ISBN.

What is going on here? What changes do I need to make to upload correctly?

Thanks for bumping.

Here’s another question: What does Amazon mean when they say:
SKU [my sku #] is associated to more than 1 GCID, which is not allowed.

What is a GCID? Anyone know?

Very insightful replies; however they assume facts not in evidence.

Each SKU is unique to the exact book I am trying to sell. It is composed of (among other things) the ISBN of the book, the purchase date and price, and condition. Thus, two books of the same ISBN will have different SKUs due to differing conditions, purchase prices and dates, and so on.

SO: Error 1: SKU [my sku #] is associated to more than 1 GCID, which is not allowed. How can this be, since the first time Amazon saw my sku was when I uploaded it - or tried to upload it?

Error 2: This SKU is not in the Amazon catalog. Right - that’s why I am uploading inventory (new items to sell) on a spreadsheet.

I have listed these books by hand in the weeks since, using the skus I created. Surprise, each ISBN had more than one detail page with different offers and ASINs and prices.

Maybe it couldn’t upload because of the proliferation of catalog pages for the same ISBN book. Amazon didn’t know where to add my offer.

First, I do not deal in books.

  1. What is the ID that is used for books ISBN or that GCID or another?

  2. Also these are NEW book additions for YOU. and if YES, when you uploaded you left the update/delete field BLANK (because “update”, updates all fields in an existing listing, and “Partial” updates non blank fields of an existing listing

I’m still getting the same error messages for my skus. That is so weird. Each sku, and they are all different, is saying that the sku is assigned to more than one GCID. I’m going back to the old way…one by one.

Mistake.

The inventory loader and ISBNs don’t work well together, as it’s for “Product matching only”, and there can be multiple ASINs for Books (as you likely found out)

This is also because of the multiple matches and then results in no creation of the SKU.

I wouldn’t expect a large % of SKUs with issues though, and so would just do those by ASIN or manualy.

Honestly though Amazon was to have depreciated (and did for a while) this upload. You should be using the Books template.
