Postage cost for heavy Books
I would like to list a Book on Amazon but am not sure about Shipping costs for Books. The Book is hardbound and weights nearly 900 grams.
Any suggestions pls ?
Much appreciated.

If you are an individual seller, Amazon sets the UK postage allowance for books at a standard £2.80. A book weighing 900g plus packaging can go by Royal Mail as a 2nd class small parcel at a cost of £3.00 (assuming the book dimensions are not huge - you can see the size limits on RM’s website or in their prices leaflets from post offices). However, Amazon’s fees and VAT on the whole transaction will knock out all of the £2.80, so basically you need to add £3 to the price of the book to ensure you get enough to cover the cost of postage. For overseas mail, the discrepancy between Amazon’s allowance and the actual postage for a book of that weight is even worse, so you might prefer not to list it as available to buyers outside the UK.
To work out the best price to charge for the book, start listing it with the price you’re thinking of, click on the “Advanced view” slider at the righthand side of the screen so it changes to orange, then scroll down the page to see the fees and the net amount you will receive. If that’s not profitable, go back up and change the book price, re-check the figures below until you’re happy!
