40% of Merchants on Amazon Based in China (UK 35% Approx)
Interesting article not sure if this has been previously posted or not, but does give some idea to the Sellers on Amazon UK in particular Chinese sellers taking over the platform with the majority benefitting from unfair practices to the detrement of existing Sellers;

It does add, “of the top sellers”
so 40% doesn’t mean 2 out of every 5 sellers are based in China…

Yes, I have seen it as I was working on an informative video with some interesting statistics about the Amazon marketplace last week.
I don’t see any problem with sellers being based in a different country, as long as they follow all the policies, sell quality products and the rules are the same for everyone.
Since Amazon is inviting more and more Chinese sellers to join the site, they should also employ more staff to monitor all the violations, including product review abuse, otherwise it wil only result in the conditions getting worse for local sellers.

This cannot be good for amazon I personally feel. Perhaps they are trying to entice the china based sellers away from ebay. I am totally fed up with finding items on ebay, or ordering them, and then finding they come from china with long delayed delivery times. They are quite adept at hiding their posting locations on ebay so i ended up wasting time trying to find out if the company was really based in london or wigan or wherever, place an order then find out its coming from china in 3-6 weeks etc. I don’t buy from ebay any longer and if amazon go the same way that will be it for me.

This is a logical consequence of the way Amazon have been moving. Amazon want manufacturers to use the marketplace and FBA to sell directly to buyers, cutting out the traditional wholesalers and distribution chains. This removes one source of costs, ensuring lower prices for buyers.
