GS1 Barcodes being used by another seller
Hi,
We have been listing via bulk uploads but every now and then we get a 8541 error code.
It looks like someone else is using our GS1 purchased barcodes. We have opened a case with SS and uploaded our GS1 Certificate as proof of barcode licencing.
Has anyone else had this and were you successful in getting the other sellers listing removed or have your barcode freed up? It seems a bit wrong to pay Amazon’s only accepted barcode supplier only for barcodes to be already taken up.

I think @Kevanden had this problem when they first started selling

I am sure I read that GS1 recycle their GTINs after a period of time (5 years maybe?)
They are not yours per se, they are more loaned to you while you have an active subscription.

Personally I would be asking GS1 to issue me a new, unused, batch of numbers.

We had this on random numbers, all being used by a Chinese seller selling mobile phone covers and using a similar batch of numbers.
Put it down to them guessing the numbers.
We just had to right the 20 or so numbers off.

We get this occasionally too. Maybe 1 in 1,000. It always freaks me out but all I do is fill in the Brand/Product/MPN etc on GS1 as VOID and just go onto the next one. In my experience Amazon do not take action with regards to EAN / GTIN misuse at all.

Some one nicked one of my barcodes and loaded up very different product details to mine.
Seller central took a little while to sort it out, but they did. I just sent them my product details and my GS1 details, and kept on at them till it was fixed…
GS1 don’t recycle the barcodes anymore. You can help protect your products and barcodes by making sure GS1 have the details of all your products against the barcodes in their database.
