Royal Mail Won't Compensate Lost Items?
I have made a few claims this year for lost deliveries using the Royal Mail Signed For service.
I am receiving the same response that because the recipient has not responded to their inquiries, I am not entitled to compensation. Surely a customer-seller email reporting none receipt and a tracking number showing none delivery is enough to confirm that items have not been delivered?.
Just wondering how many others have encountered this and how often?.

Personally not often, but the few I have had is because the buyer has not been at home when delivery attempted and they either haven’t been left a card to re-arrange delivery, or not bothered tom do so or not gone to their delivery office to collect - that is the problem with signed for.

We gave up years ago trying to make claims against Royal Mail.
It’s like trying to get blood out of a stone, if your lucky and have plenty of time on your hands you may get a book of stamps for all your efforts.
Procedure is that they will write to the customer, they have to sign and return the declaration form, they know the customer won’t bother so this is why they do it and so you give up like we did for making claims against them!

Do not let them fob you off, keep at it, phone if you have to, they will compensate.
Have been getting that as a first reply but if you pursue they will pay up

I have a very similar experience with Royal Mail.
A few months ago (in January), I shipped a few rather expensive packages using Royal Mail when I was visiting the UK. I paid for Signed-for 1st Class delivery with tracking.
Today is 21.June and half of the packages were never delivered and are simply gone. I tried to submit a claim online, it would not let me do it since I do not have an address in the UK. They never responded to my online inquiries. On the phone support they hanged up on me.
So basically as a foreiginer who shipped items during a short stay in the country, there is no way how I can get compensated.
I will be submitting an official complaint at the European Union Dispute resolution centre as I see that there is no way to get my money back from this terrible company.

Take this from someone who has taken them to court, they are chatting crap.
They have tried to use that excuse on me many times but to no avail.
Just reply back stating that it does not state in your terms & conditions that a response is needed by the recipient & if compensation is not paid for the value of the item you will have no choice but to take them to small claims court.
Peace

I stopped using royal mail years ago because they would never pay out hoever in the last 2 years they have paid out every claim as long as i provide proof of postage. so if i have lost the receipt but sent it signed for then I click on the tracking and most of the time it shows when I posted it and where I use that electronic system screen shot photo as proof of postage otherwise i upload the receipt and the customer invoice. I thought they had scrapped the recipient filling in letters.

Hi Mel. Similar situation with RM for years. We are asked to produce invoice for original cost of item which is not always possible as we could be returning customers own unit. We are always asked to supply proof of postage which is already on their system with a tracking number and amount paid!. Our most recent one is where we were asked to provide an email addess of customer, considering its an Amazon customer we were unable to and were refused. How the hell is an email address neccessary for a claim? Many other situations similar and I am aware it does not happen to everybody but we have never had a successful claim or even a refund of postage paid in 5 years of selling on Amazon. Only Amazon could trump them!!

Yes we get this.
We do claim, not because we ever get reimbursed but because we were told that RM need to build up a profile of postal problem areas so claiming helps them anaylse poor performance areas etc.
I do agree with you though, surely evidence from us (the RM customer) is sufficient.
The fulfilment side of ecommerce is very one sided against the sender IMHO!

I have had a similar issue. Royal Mail will only compensate the cost price of the item not the sale price of the item. My items are hand made, and i have had to prove to them how much each part costs me.

It’s lovely seeing everyone get up in arms about Royal Mail, if only the same would occur with Amazon
