Can't list new products using our EAN codes

You are using UPCs, EANs, ISBNs, ASINs, or JAN codes that do not match the products you are trying to list. If you believe you have reached this message in error, please contact Seller Support.

We’ve had a list of pre-purchases codes that have been working since 2016 but now I get this error when trying to create new asins. All of our products are unique, and our own creations - so the EAN code becomes ours when we list products.

As usual SS has been useless. I have tried buying some codes from another seller but they have also not worked.

Has there been some Amazon change in 2018, as we were fine in 2017 with listing tradtionally using the usual excel sheets.

We have had this back from an Amazon rep:

In order to ensure an enjoyable shopping experience and to protect how brands are presented on Amazon, it is essential that we have accurate data associated with products in our catalog. For this reason we ask that you please provide proof of the authenticity of the GTINs you are using via one of the following methods:

  • If you are the owner of the brand you are selling, please provide:
A copy of the certificate issued to you by GS1 showing your legal entity and associated GTIN prefix(s)
    AND
Proof that the legal entity on this certificate is related to your brand such as a copy write, trademark, or website which displays your products or brand and references the legal entity.

  • If you are not the owner of the brand, please provide:
A copy of a letter or legal agreement from the manufacturer, or brand stating that the GTIN you are using to list this product is valid and owned by them OR that you are allowed to use your own GTIN to sell unique products with their brand. If you are using your own GTIN, the letter should establish that there is a relationship between the legal entity associated with your prefix and the brand. The letter must also include the point of contact at the brand or manufacturer that Amazon can contact to verify, this can be found in the footer of the letterhead or indicated in the text.

AND

If you are using your own GTIN to sell unique products with their brand, please provide a copy of the certificate issued to you by GS1 showing your legal entity and associated GTIN prefix(s).

We buy from a seller and are given an excel sheet, none of the above. I assume this is a crackdown on these types of code sellers?

Thanks, looking for advice as it’s the only way we’ve done it, and would like to know the ‘new and improved’ way. Cheers.

You can only use barcodes from GS1 now - they are the only authorised seller of these that Amazon acknowledge. Your barcodes are apparently not on the GS1 database that Amazon check with. Amazon are gradually working through all listings and closing down any where the barcodes aren’t from GS1.

Thanks for the quick responses - as a company who create our own products is there another way to list, or is it looking like we have to go down the GS1 route to continue making new ASINs?
