FBA vs FBM - Product Sales Price (Buy Box)

If I am selling an item with FBA and the only other sellers on the listing are FBM, is there a certain % I can charge more then the FBM sellers and still be winning the buy box?

I have various listings where I maybe charging £1-2 more than an FBM seller and not winning the buy box. Does anyone price their FBA products at a certain % more or just keep adjusting the price until the buy box is won as each product and price you can get away with varies from product to product?

Many thanks

Jake

Short answer: Yes.

Longer answer: it varies based on a huge number of factors, the biggest of which is the account status of the customer that is viewing the page.
If the customer does not have a prime account then your FBA (prime) listing will only get the same priority as normal listings, but your (probably) faster shipping and handling time will still give you a slight edge. This can be flipped on its head when Amazon believes that the buyer might want to start a prime trial or renew their expired prime sub for example, in which case they will give your listing a bigger push than normal (for that one customer).
on the other hand the customer’s location also plays a big role, customers close to the warehouse your stock is in get faster shipping so more likely to see you in the buy-box, while customers further away get slower shipping so other offers get an edge.

Whether or not you are registered as a Business seller and whether or not the customer is a Business Buyer both make a difference too.
There’s literally 100s of factors that come into play many of which people can’t even begin to guess, the one’s I’ve mentioned have only been worked out by sellers through trial and error over time, Amazon will never clearly say what affects buy box chances.

Price is ofc still a factor, if you want to price above non-prime sellers than 5-10% is a good target, some categories allow for up to 15% before you lose the buy-box more often than not, this is assuming that all other factors are equal.
