Adding to an existing listing

Hi I wish to source a product and sell on an existing listing. The product in question has no branding on it and i have found the exact same thing to sell. There is only one seller on the listing so far. How do i make sure the product is not brand protected in any way? Ive added to the listing via my seller account and no issues. I just need to order the products now and list them but I dont want to order the stock and then i have a problem with it. Is there anything i can check to make sure I will not have an issue with branding and the existing seller trying to get me thrown off the listing? thanks

Is there a brand name mentioned anywhere on the listing? Does it show as “generic”?

Hi yes not on the actual product itself but in the product heading. under details it says brand and then their name and then nothing in the description. then under product information they have that name as the manufacturer. as i say the product i have is exactly the same. any ideas? thanks

Thanks, doesn’t this just create hundreds of the same product listing as pretty much everything has a brand name in the title even though it’s not got branding on the product? For instance, the airtag holders I sell, my name is in the listing but I don’t make them, they don’t have my name on and anyone can buy them?

wouldnt the product itself have to be trademarked?

They may be buying a white label item then re-packaging into packaging with their branding on so best to stay away from anything where the branding is anything other than generic in case they have registered the brand then report you for trademark violation.

People seem to be passing off generic items as their own which is in breach of Amazon policy

…and, if you are trading from China you can do anything you please, as the rules are not applied to your listings at all!

It’s a nightmare, there’s a particular item that we sell elsewhere, on Amazon it was originally created with the correct EAN, however we’ve seen that this item, trademarked and branded was created again on Amazon with the sellers name on the title, and in the brand attribute which is surely against policy but nothing will be done.

The correct brand attribute itself I believe is enrolled in the brand registry anyway so seems pointless to do that as there’s no link between the brand and the products…

But as The Little Shop said, welcome to Amazon, this is just one of the many many problems.
