Read onlyHi everyone,
I just wondered if anyone on here has a business rate with Royal mail and can give a bit of in sight of what to expect?
I've read that you have to put everything in sacks before taking to the post office, this is putting me off slightly as I don't drive unfortunately. Is there any way you can just drop off parcels has and when you get orders? Rather than in sacks etc
Thanks
You need to separate the parcel types and service types. If you have a high enough volume, you should be able to get free collections so you don't have to take them.
So if you're sending RM24/48, you need to separate all 4 of 24 LL, 24 parcel, 48 LL and 48 Parcel from each other, and international post needs to be separate as well.
For International in particular how you need it separated depends on the service type. Your account manager should explain how those need separating.
If you have a large enough volume or send at least 1000 tracked items a year, you can arrange a free collection. I don't drive and they closed our local post office, so I know the problem. For a while I played at being Father Christmas on the bus though.
By the sounds of things i doubt you would qualify for business rates.
If i'm wrong and you send 5000 tracked a year you can get very competitve rates and free collections from royal mail.
If your doing low volume just get a click and drop account and you can continue to drop your paclkages to th post office as and when they come in.
We're required to put ours in the grey trays and hand it over to the post office as we have a small volume and the sacks are too big.
Once you open your account, I'm sure someone from collections will discuss your best options as to what they prefer for presenting your mail.
I have a Royal Mail Online Business Account for my postings.
But the Printing Company on the lower floor of the building . Do not have many parcels to send out on a regular daily basis, so they just use the Royal Mail Click and Drop Service when they need it .
They can purchase their postage online and get their packages picked up for free by Royal Mail save them going to the Post Office
Depends really how many packages you are sending out to get the best price.
We are not allowed to discuss rates but you will probably have to negotiate a bit and it depends on your volume. I get a daily collection as I send more than 1000 tracked items a year, it doesn't save me a fortune but with the collection I save one hour a day on average which makes it worth it. If I increase my volume, I will renegotiate the rates.
When I used my business account with Royal Mail and switched to tracked services, it was cheaper for the general public to buy the parcels online rather than my negotiated rate. This really annoyed me because I was spending £10,000s every year. If you don't meet your agreed target, they will increase your price.
With a business account, they will add surcharges, VAT, fuel surcharges, peak season surcharges and fine you if you get anything wrong. And you have to separate the parcels into sizes and class.
Better to use marketplace shipping, click & drop, or click & go.
If using any other service, that's not a RM business account, you can just hand over the parcels any way you please. They will scan and separate the packages. Just don't arrive 10 minutes before the collection time!
with a business account you can not take to a post office they have to goto a Royal Mail service centre or be collected
you sort different mail types into different sacks, then create a postal manifest for the collection or drop off
you can get free postal supplies including 6x4 labels, and you will get a reduction in cost depending on the quantity you send
It depends on how much you sell, it was fine when I was at the beginning of this adventure but now, especially before Christmas and on Mondays after payday, I struggle to take everything to the post office as I don't drive. Therefore the free collection has become essential.
I suggest you find a different courier or use Amazon's "Buy Shipping" with your own Royal Mail account. Royal Mail will overcharge you at some point. Once, they charged me £80 for eight 2nd class letters due to a Click & Drop error, and it was never refunded or removed from my invoice. I strongly recommend finding another courier you could also save a lot of money compared to Royal Mail’s rates.
