As previously announced, the EU Batteries Regulation requires all eligible standalone batteries and batteries contained within a product for sale in the EU to carry a CE mark and have an EU Responsible Person.

Now, we want to make you aware of EU Batteries Regulation requirements for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), which will apply from August 18, 2025.

How does this affect me?

Producers of standalone batteries and batteries contained within a product must prove compliance to Amazon by providing a registration number before August 18, 2025. Starting on this date, Amazon will be legally required to either deactivate your non-compliant offers or comply on your behalf, depending on the country.

What do I need to do?

Step 1 – If you’re considered a producer of batteries, register in each EU member state or enter into a contract with an approved producer responsibility organisation (PRO). You can register now in the following EU member states: France (SYDEREP), Germany (Stiftung ear), Italy (Registro Pile e Accumulatori), Poland (BDO), Spain (Sede electrónica RII_PYA) and Sweden (Naturvårdsverket). We’ll notify you when other EU member states open registration. If you use drop-shipping or resell standalone batteries and batteries contained within a product, obtain registration numbers from your upstream suppliers.

Step 2 – Prove your compliance to Amazon by submitting your registration numbers on the Compliance Portal for each EU member state where you have registered (once the portal is live in Q3–Q4 2024).

Step 3 – Annually report your battery sales and pay eco-fees to the relevant EU authorities or PROs.

If you sell products containing single-use plastic on Amazon.de, you can now prove your compliance with the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for Single-Use Plastics regulation on the Account Health dashboard. Starting January 1, 2025, Amazon will be legally obliged to confirm your compliance and deactivate non-compliant listings.

If you’re a producer established in Germany, follow the steps below to prove your compliance.

• Step 1 – Register your brands in each single-use plastics category with the German Environment Agency’s Single-Use Plastics Fund platform (DIVID).
• Step 2 – Submit your registration numbers for each brand and product type combination in the Compliance Portal via Account Health > Policy Compliance > Regulatory Compliance. We will review and update the status of your submission in the Compliance Portal within five working days.
• Step 3 – Starting in 2025, report the types and quantities of single-use plastic products that you sold in Germany to DIVID, and pay the corresponding levy (eco-contribution fees) each year. To access your EPR reports, go toEPR Category Report.

If you’re not a producer and are established in Germany but only resell products from producers, you must obtain the registration numbers from your upstream supplier and follow Step 2 and Step 3 above.

If you’re a producer, or resell products from producers, and are not established in Germany, you will need to register via DIVID, appoint an authorised representative to fulfil your EPR reporting requirements, and follow Step 2 and Step 3 above. Starting January 1, 2025, a German regulation, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for Single-Use Plastic, will impact your products containing single-use plastic on Amazon.de.

The EPR for Single-Use Plastic regulation aims to promote sustainable waste management and reduce plastic pollution. It requires producers, importers and distributors of single-use plastic products to participate in a system to collect, sort and recycle these products.

To continue to sell products containing single-use plastic on Amazon.de, you are required to comply with the EPR requirements and submit your registration number to Amazon before January 1, 2025. We will deactivate your non-compliant listings after this date.

What do I need to do?

• Step 1 – If you’re a producer established in Germany, register all of your brands in each single-use plastic category with the German Environment Agency's Single-Use Plastics Fund platform (DIVID) to get your registration numbers. If you use drop-shipping or resell single-use plastic products, obtain the registration number(s) from your upstream supplier(s);
• Step 2 – Submit the registration numbers in the Compliance Portal (we will inform you once the portal is live in Q3-Q4 2024);
• Step 3 – Starting 2025, report the types and quantities of single-use plastic products that you sold in Germany to DIVID each year and pay the corresponding levy (eco-fees).

If you are a producer and are not established in Germany, you can already create an account on DIVID and appoint an authorised representative to fulfil single-use plastic requirements for you. Starting August 1, 2024, you can register your brands on DIVID.

We recommend that you register now on DIVID to ensure you can prove your compliance to Amazon when the Compliance Portal is live for single-use plastic products in Q3-Q4 2024.
