10 out of 10 for persistence

Got a customer who bought a £300 TV for her son’s Christmas present and has emailed to say there is a problem with the sound. No worries, I say, please submit a return request I will send a prepaid label and issue a full refund or a replacement, whichever you prefer, when it is received.

She doesn’t have time to return it but if we give her a £140 partial refund she will get it repaired herself. Now I may be being a little cynical but this reeks. Particularly as she switches between emailing herself and then emailing via Amazon Customer Services as if I am going to give the money away because the request has come from them.

I might be wrong but every bit of this sounds like a scam and I’ll be damned if I am going to capitulate.

Rule #1: Do nothing until you get the goods back.

Is it new or used? If new its a scam, if used they may, just may, be telling the truth.

Of course it’s a scam!

And how would she know a repair would cost £140 unless she’s actually called out a tv repairman (which she hasn’t) and obtained a written quote?

No return - no refund.

Trying to scam you wait till the return is back

No return = no refund.

I usually say it in a more roundabout yet clear way; sorry you were unhappy with the product. Please return the item for a full refund as advised. In accordance with Amazon policy the goods must be returned before a refund can be issued.

As soon as she started asking for money rather than a return, and then coming up with reasons why it could not be returned, I knew she was trying it on. Also the fault is not one that can be demonstrated by a photograph.

Don’t think this is her first time either but she’s trying it with the wrong one today.

consider reporting the buyer as well

Report the messages using the “Report message” button and select “The buyer is trying to defraud me”.

Amazon will not refund the buyer without returning the item back. The only thing which she could do is to leave you a negative feedback.

The next thing will be an A to Z claim and Amazon will grant a full seller refund, no investigation, common sense or questions asked.

Is this is a brand new TV? If so, who buys a new TV as a Christmas present for someone else and then goes to the trouble of unpacking it and trying it out to see if it works properly?

They usually are… Give them enough rope and they invaribly hang themselves.
