An amusing return and a semi serious question to go with
We listed a few months back a good seller on other platforms. Did the right thing went to the upc/barcode and found the item that way. Filled out and managed to get all the title right for the upc/barcode only bit we could not change was the photos as Amazon denied us permission to alter the photos.
Now for the fun part the item upc/barcode is for an iron on interfacing which we sell for £4.50 per metre inc postage. The photos that we cannot get Amazon to change are for a stainless steel all singing all dancing 4 slot toaster.
Against my better judgement I had left this up there and actually sold 1 the other day. Now got an auto authorised return saying advert was incorrect.
Now we are always told that these are Amazons ASIN’s and I had asked for the pic to be corrected so who pays for the over inflated returns postage.

Sadly I think you will be left with paying for the return.
But seriously, who would buy thinking they would receive a toaster? When the listing title and wording is for interfacing!

Seller will pay as seller knows listing is misleading would be Amazon’s stance. As to who would buy and expect the toaster, the answer is no one. But, there are people who either go looking for incorrect listings or stumble across them and think it’s worth a gamble. After all, they can’t lose money as they know they can get a refund and there’s a slim chance they “make bank”.

Yes people just look at the picture. I once listed a kids backpack using the correct ASIN, someone else changed the listing to also include an umbrella and lunch bag as well as the backpack.
The description still said it was a bag but the customer was not happy as they expected all three.
Problem is Amazon make it difficult to correct listings once they have been changed incorrectly. I have lost count of how many items I have had to retire just because I can’t get the listing changed back to how it was.

Now I really want an iron on picture of toasters made by “Quality happiness Mountain – The Original”.
If I put it on a t-shirt, can I get paid for advertising the toaster?
Personally, I would not add my stock to an ASIN with a totally different image, it’s just asking for trouble.

this is one of those times where you new the listing to be incorrect but listed anyway. so unfortunatly thats your own fault and you will pay for postage.
if amazon is being difficult in changing the listing i recommend selling on another site maybe.
i used this phrase a long time ago that my time is more valuble that keep reopening cases, so if amazon want to loose sales on it then fine.

More seriously, why on earth won’t Amazon respond to these requests? I had the same where random pictures suddenly appeared for an best-selling item. I must have asked 20 times for them to change the images. Finally I gave up, having sold thousands of the item: I never sold any more, and lost six years of positive reviews. Grrr.

I’ve had Amazon change the stock photo to something completely different (a Lego set to a Playdoh set). They told me I couldn’t change it because I wasn’t the brand owner. After enquiring, they said only the brand owner could change the photo. Obviously incorrect - why would Lego change a listing they could control to a photo of something they don’t own? Anyway, the listing reverted back shortly after

Sadly it is becoming more apparent that customers are only shopping by looking at pictures and not reading the FULL item description. We get it quite a bit where a customer gets in touch asking questions about our personalised products when in fact the answers are staring them in the face in the item description and it is clear they are not reading first. It would be nice if we had more control over our listing specs to add something to the top of our item pages to make it clear that they really should read the item description before purchasing as well as a few other things of course

The main and big issue here is that rogue sellers can somehow just change photos to suit themselves and their schemes (how I do not know when we have to jump through hoops to get items corrected), and Amazon let them get away with it.
They have created a monster that is out of control.

If you knew photos are wrong why list them?
