Do AMAZON HAVE THEIR OWN VERSION OF GS1?
Do Amazon have their own version of GS1? I do not use my own bar codes I use the manufacturers original bar codes which increasingly Amazon are blocking from listing claiming the codes do not match with their GS1 site strangely another sales channel who also uses GS1 system to authentic products and every one of my codes match the products and we have no problem listing.
In the past while we have a keyring removed as Amazon GS1 stated it is an Elvis statue on nthe other channel it showed correctly as the keyring another example an Irish sports hat is according to Amazon GS1 an American country and western singer

It’s the registered name they are checking on GS1 so if the item is a Disney Keyring and GS1 have the barcode registered as Disney, but the listing has the brand name as Disney Keyrings International, it will cause a mismatch

I have had problems over the last year with licensed products and Amazon saying GS1 does not match.
For example I have had a few Marvel and Lol Surprise products that have been removed due to barcodes not matching.
As most of these products are made under license then it is unlikely that the barcodes will match. I couldn’t get Amazon to understand this and they wanted licensing agreements and copies of the GS1 certificates. They were all end of line with only a handful of units left in FBA so I recalled them and sold them elsewhere.

The whole thing is shaping up to be a massive mess and I wonder if Amazon appreciate just how hard it is going to be to get everything in their catalogue to be either GTIN exempt or to exactly match the information that GS1 hold?
I can see how it may appear to be a good idea at first glance but in reality it’s an ongoing ball-ache to do and for what? No one is searching for an item by its barcode.

We have the same issue. We are the manufacturer, the brand owner and the only seller (and GS1 has a valid licence) and Amazon keep telling us we do not have the ownership rights for the GTIN, even though we have sent them the certificates confirming we do - I have boxes of Christmas stock that should have shipped 3 weeks ago and it does not feel like we are any further forward with Amazon Seller Support in sorting the issue out

Hi,
Sorry if this is a bit off topic, but does anyone know how / what fields Amazon are checking to get a successful match with the GS1 database - in our situation we have an account with GS1 registered in our company name and the only place where our brand name is mentioned in GS1 is under the “Brand” field for each individual product we have a GS1 barcode allocated.
When I do a query on a specific EAN using gepir it returns info with our company name and details but our brand name (used in the Amazon listings) doesn’t appear anywhere in the query results - I’m concerned that if Amazon query using our brand name they’ll get a mismatch with GS1 which returns our company name in the query results.
I guess I just want to ensure we’ve setup our GS1 account / details correctly so we don’t get pinged on a technicality even when we have GS1 barcodes…
Thanks

Recently just had a listing removed as the brand did not match the GS1 registration. The manufacturer, based in the EU use their business name, from the EU, here in the UK it slightly varies by how they’re known, but the items brand, which is a brand owned by them doesn’t match the GS1. They do not or wouldn’t use their ‘brands’ in their GS1 registration name for obvious reasons. No matter what we’ve provided so far (product images, brand website, GS1 screenshot) has proven successful and the listing, for almost a brand new product has been removed.

We’ve had the same, endless isues with barcodes when trying to list products via inventory files. We have our own generic brand names and GS1 account. Yet regularly when uploading these, we receive random error messages saying “this item is a Liverpool FC / Manchester United / etc babygrow in age 12-18 months, if this is the product you are trying to list you need to amend the data”. We do not sell any football product whatsoever, nor do we sell babygrows. We sell our own bespoke products using our own barcodes. So in theory there should be no connection whatsoever with any other product in Amazon, otherwise what is the point of having unique barcodes? But then trying to explain this to Amazon and resolve the error issue is another full time job entirely, and so frustrating I’m surprised my laptop hasn’t gone through the window on numerous occasions. Also, often with a file for a product with several sizes and barcodes, it will accept half of them, and reject the others. Yet they are all newly barcodes from our GS1 account that run in sequence. Amazon is swiftly becoming the Sales Prevention Platform for us now. It used to be easy it list products, now it is abysmal. Instead we focus on other channels which are far easier to deal with, products can be loaded and on sale in minutes rather than on Amazon where it takes weeks to get anything resolved (if indeed it does). Our products are obviously seasonal - summer and winter - and often the season has ended by the time we’ve finished arguing with Amazon about barcodes, proved that we are not selling counterfeit products, got them to fix the errors…and in the meantime the value of sales lost is…???
