Hi Guys,
Clearly I have not been paying attention for a while as today I used a Parcel Postbox which had a sticker on it " Priority Postbox " and up till now was not sure what this was for.
The sticker said " Saturday and Sunday ".
So, after some " Googling " I understand the priority element is primarily re Covid and the NHS and testing materials and results etc.
Hoooooweervvvvvver … I was just wondering, has anyone dropped any mail into these boxes on any sort of Tracked / Signed for service, and found evidence of processing or delivery that suggests that the RM are actually processing - everything - they collect out of these post boxes on a Sunday, or is it just the Covid related mail ?
Thanks in advance !
hi, these priority boxes are used for posting home testing Covid kits. we have used it few times to post the kits but not sure about letters etc. and these kits are collecting everyday from the post office near my home. your area might be weekend collection only.
I’m working for royal mail sat and Sunday emptying some of these boxes and we take all the post back to the sorting office
Also, the last collection time is later on these. The one by me is 6.30pm whereas most “minor” postboxes are more like 9am.
The priority ones tend to be parcel postboxes and those outside post offices.
My nearest postbox has become a priority postbox. I use it for all my ebay orders (up to large letter as it’s not for parcels) and have not noticed any speedier delivery but then i’m pretty much post and forget with ebay.
I did a test and sent 1 item to myself at my home address ( large letter) using my Royal Mail Click & Drop account at work. Posted it in the priority box and it was scanned on delivery. Posted on 2nd Dec, delivered on the 8th.
i was talking to our collections postie the other day and he said he was running late as he has to collect from the Priority Box up the road that has all the covid tests in and he said that it takes longer as he has to put them all into special bags so maybe all the ‘regular’ post gets scooped into the covid bags and then get ditched to one side when they are sorting them
The one in our village has the same sticker, and I am always using it for my regular mails. So far, no problem. At the end, they are still postboxes. If otherwise, they would mark them not to post anything else but covid related stuff.
