Scammer buyers claiming missing unit from package
Buyer purchased 2 units of an item which I sent with RM signed service in a padded gold envelope. 2 days later, the buyer sends a message to say that one end of the envelope was cut open with 1 unit missing. There is no sticker or label on envelope indicating that it was damaged by Royal Mail. They claim to have reported to the post office and obtained a reference number. I am frustrated. I pack and post all items myself in padded envelopes and put sellotape across the seal yet this is the 2nd such claim I’ve received in a month. I refunded the previous buyer for the 1 “missing” unit but I am unwilling to refund this one. Is this the new scam? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

No, not a new scam unfortunately
Contact the buyer, apologise, state you want to work along side them to get to the bottom of it
Explain the package was weighed before despatch, and now that the packages all go through the new scanning machines in every depot, including the delivery depot and on the GPS scanners , your royal mail account manager will be able to pinpoint exactly where the loss occurred so if they will kindly give you the reference number they were given when they reported it themselves, you will happily escalate it to the RM IB team
