Items returned from customs 'automatic clearance failed'

Good evening, I don’t sell much to outside of the uk, but when I do I find 8 out 10 have ‘Return to sender, rejected / failed electronic customs clearance’ (I have correctly filled in the customs form)
Every time one gets returned i’m out of pocket £8.75 as I have to refund as the customer as they did’nt get it (rightly so). Somtimes the postage is more than the products worth!
Any ideas why this is happening?
Or what can I do to stop it happeng, I’ve had no problem before brexit sending items overseas.

I have put all stores on ‘holiday’ (apart from uk) to try and stop getting orders for overseas but somtimes people from overseas buy from uk store.

Thank you

I deliver to the EU (from selling on the mainland EU sites not from the UK site) I use click and drop and it does all of the IOSS work for you and will create the CN22 as a label (you can even upload a signature).

A couple of things to make sure you do:
First I would get an EORI number which is free and fairly simple and quick just search Google for get an EORI number and the first non sponsored result shoudl be the Gov dot UK / eori. The number is free if they ask for money you’re on the wrong site.
Add that Eori number and your exact seller name as it appears on Amazon into your settings on Click and Drop and select that organisation as the one that sends on all of your Amazon integrations (once you’ve configured them.
Then get Click and Drop to download your orders into the system automatically, you can do this on click and drop by going to settings > integrations then follow the steps to add an integration, you will need to do this seperately for each marketplace and create the settings to allow the Click and Drop system to automatically mark orders as dispatched on Amazon.

It sounds like a pain but take your time and it’s actually fairly simple just a bit daunting that’s all but the time and hassle it will save you in future is huge.

Good Luck and trust me it’s simple and loads more profitable than just stopping selling to EU countries.

Are you uploading the IOSS info electronically too (if under €150) ?

To stop that you untick international shipping on your shipping templates

By hand or electronically?

Unless you are up to speed with ioss and using a carrier that will allow electronic upload, I’d stop selling outside uk - many of us did back in 2020

Hello @Car-LED,

Now with the Brexit some regulation had changed. I hope the posts had answered your question.
I want to say a big thank you to all sellers that had shared their knowledge.
For future reference i paste here a link to a help page related to Brexit regulation.

Regards
Nickolas

Sign up for the business acount or just sign up for click and drop.

Enter the IOSS number in the click and drop settitngs for Amazon (if you use any other selling platform you will need to ensure that they are logged in seperately)

Once you have tried click and drop doubt you will go back to the post office

Turn off France and Germany from your shipping areas as if its just the occasional shipment its not worth the hassle to those areas ref EPR etc.

TBH its not really a brexit problem as the ioss was coming in wether we left the eu or not as its a way of countries getting the tax and stopping shady companies working out of luxemberg and ireland and dodging their tax responsibilities.

French customs are useless with IOSS, they don’t have a clue

We have so many French orders on another site which either charge customer customs fees or disappear completely despite the CN22 being next to postage label with a extra message stating VAT paid via IOSS

The lost or customs charged rate is around 30/40% currently for our French orders, so bad we have just stopped sending there

Nothing you can do im afraid

I have found posting to Belgium (on another site) to be particularly bad, with sellers being charged for vat twice by the corrupt/incompetent Belgian postal authorities. I no longer post there.
