Updated dimension attributes for product types

Did anyone else get the email last night?
I dont really want to click the link in it for find out which product types they’re on about because it wants me to sign in first
I don’t know if anyone more computer savvy than me knows how to see the list without signing in on the page?

Assuming the link takes you to where the text says it will then that is a genuine Seller Central Website (its the same start as the email I just received about the case I just replied to

https://sellercentral-europe.amazon.com/cu/case-dashboard/view-case?caseID=0000000000 (I removed the case number just incase :D)

If its the same at the bottom left of your browser (that tells you where the actual link goes too if you hover over the link) then its probably safe enough.

If its any help if you change the domain on your link from sellercentral-europe.amazon.com to sellercentral.amazon.co.uk it will take you to the same place without the need to login (as you would probably already be logged in on co.uk)

yes i had it last night and a few weeks back too

there was a discussion on one of the VTR threads last year when they said you could use Stamps/Franking for Letter sized items and it was asked ‘well how would they know if it were a letter or not’ - this maybe ?!

I created a new listing yesterday and was asked for the package dimensions before allowing me to save

I can’t see how this can work for handmade listings, my products / packaging varies significantly from letter, large letter, and postal tubes from the same listing with multi-variation options.

I’ve yet to receive any communication from Amazon regarding this and I certainly hope existing listings won’t be affected / enforced, I was able to edit a handmade listing earlier and it was revised with no issues.

Isnt it the dimensions of the item rather than the packaging that they’re asking for?

its apparently only for some product types, which is what I cant find without clicking a link in the email and then signing into my amazon account (if its genuine, who knows?)

This maybe related to a recent problem I have had with the prepaid returns labels issued by Amazon.

Amazon uses this calculation (dimensions in cm):
Package length + (2 x width) + (2 x depth)
If this value is above 245 then Amazon deem the package bulky and will not issue a prepaid returns label

Therefore, at a guess, it looks like Amazon are now going to require package dimensions for shipping so they can determine whether they can issue a prepaid returns label or not when customer initiates a return.

It took me weeks of back and forth with SS to get that calculation from them
What you could do of course is just give max values you know it will fall within. I am now using 45 x 60 x 30 as I know all my items fall under this size and yet it gives a value of 225 so well under what Amazon deems as a bulky package.
Of course if you want to stop prepaid labels being issued you could make sure the dimensions gives a value above 245.
